You couldn't grok my race car, but you dug the roadside blur.

A Cities Skylines sized hole of a decade since The Sims 4? TS5 hasn't even really been reported on and there's two contenders for the new Sims coming out this year, CS came out two years after Simcity 2013.

But yeah that tracks. I can't imagine TS5 not being complete poo poo just because of EA.

Do they let you do violence to Sims? I think that's the stimulus that series needs. Sims with fully modeled internal bodies, and the most realistic violence ever depicted in a video game.

It's sufficiently socialist, and the tactical game is good, but the strategic layer can get quite tedious

i've got a b team set up on that island outpost, seems like almost all the legion squads route through there so some milita and a few guys to retrain after battles has been holding them off good so far. i'm kinda expecting things to heat up soon though

I went back to the rpk, since I could actually keep feeding it ammo, then skipped over it again to the saw for the same reason. the hk21 is a loving death-ray when you get it tricked out, but it's just too much all around and I needed to put some challenge, aside from being a bullet accountant, back into the game. same reason I wound up dropping livewire and barry from my a team.

there's absolutely nothing left of the eastern half of ernie village, other than half a wall that used to be basil's workshop. but they played me a really pretty song when I ran the legion out, so it's my stalingrad and the dolvich family don't take one step back.

I finished the Italian campaign of Age of Empires 2. This one is about Francesco Sforza, a condottiero who fought his way into becoming the Duke of Milan, and how he got there.

(tangentially, I had, as a child, read about Caterina Sforza, his grand-daughter, and her conflict with Cesare Borgia, but the story of Francesco was new history to me)

I had written about the Italians before in a multiplayer context

relative to the Byzantines, whose campaign I previously completed, the Italians lack the final Spearman upgrade, which means they're stuck at Pikemen rather than Halberdiers. Since the Italians also lack access to camels, this makes them especially vulnerable to other factions with very strong cavalry

this became an issue in the final mission of the campaign, where one of the enemies you have to deal with are Franks, who specialize in cavalry and have especially powerful Paladins - it was an uphill battle to fight them off

otherwise, the Italians have cheaper gunpowder units, meaning I could use Bombard Cannons instead of Trebuchets for sieging down buildings and walls, and their unique unit, the Condottiero, which has a bonus against gunpowder units, was well-suited to fighting off other Italian factions and their hand cannoneers. And so while their "trash units" are weaker/more expensive than the Byzantines, their gold-cost units are that much stronger

the campaign also featured water battles on at least two maps, which I had not had to contend with before, but learned quickly

there was one mission that had a great gimmick: you started off in one town with a number of available military production buildings, but no villagers - there were three towns that started the game as hostile to you, but if you managed to break in and deliver a Relic to their Monastery, they would convert to your side and send you a scripted trickle of wood/food/gold. So the mission starts off as a no-base-building challenge where you have to carefully husband your forces, but after you capture at least one town you're able to transition into a more traditional mode of building up troops and making moves without needing to micro every individual unit. It's a nice compromise between the full shebang of having a Town Center and villagers and needing to develop a whole economy.

Arohongui, Daughter of the Moon, was preparing for a feast to celebrate Tukohama's return from his war on the First Ones of the Ezomytes. Tawhoa, Son of the Forest, asked each of the birds to sacrifice one of their kind for the feast. He gave these offerings to Arohongui who cooked them in a great fire-stone pit.

Seeing all of those plump birds cooking made Kitava very hungry, and he offered to watch them, to make sure they didn't burn while Arohongui rested during the heat of the day. Arohongui thanked Kitava for his kindness, but while she slept, Kitava ate the cooking birds, flesh, bones, gizzards and all.

Upon waking, Arohongui was furious to find Kitava had lied to her, for saying that he would watch the birds when he truly intended to eat them all up. When Tukohama arrived home in his mighty canoe, Arohongui asked him to punish Kitava for his selfish gluttony.

Tukohama, our Father of War, agreed and pulled the sharpest tooth from his own mouth. He then asked Arohongui and Tawhoa to hold Kitava fast while he cut Kitava's face with the tooth. Two slashes that blinded Kitava and formed a bleeding cross upon his face.

From that day forth, Kitava would never be able to promise to watch that which he truly intended to consume.

To replace the feast of birds that Kitava had greedily consumed, Tukohama, our Father of War, and Valako, Father of Storm, went fishing.

Although Kitava was blind, he could still cast his line and feel when a fish took his bait. So Tukohama and Valako took him with them on Tukohama's mighty canoe.

But while they fished, Kitava grew hungry and secretly ate all of their bait of grubs and worms. Disgusted and angry, Tukohama and Valako decided to use Kitava as bait instead. Valako used his own jawbone as a hook, impaled Kitava on it, and cast both into the sea.

Kitava sank to the bottom of the sea, but instead of the fish eating Kitava, it was Kitava who ate all of the fish that nibbled at him, flesh, scales, guts and all.

When Tukohama and Valako hauled a fat-bellied Kitava back up from the sea, they were even more furious, and knew that Kitava must be punished one final time.

Tukohama, our Father of War, and Valako, Father of Storm, took Kitava to Hinekora, Mother of Death.

They asked her to kill the greedy Kitava, for surely their tribe would starve if Kitava continued to live among them. But Hinekora refused, for death would not teach Kitava the lesson he needed to learn.

Instead, Hinekora beat Kitava with a whip woven of her own hair. To Kitava, each strand was a searing lash, and so he wore thousands and thousands of blistering lashes across his back as Hinekora drove him relentlessly into the darkest corner of the underworld. There she left him to suffer, without water or food, for the rest of eternity.

And there Kitava remained, in the darkness of Hinekora's night-clad island for time beyond measure. There he suffered, waiting for the day that he could return to the world of light to slake his scorching thirst and satiate his ravening hunger.

Soiled Meat

Thank. It is beautifully written lore from decades ago. The setup is that a boat full of Polynesians who are fresh off of a slave uprising during the tumultuous end times would like some artifacts to protect them during their journey. The items are a tooth, a jaw, and some hair, everything you need for a complete fishing trip. Each item has about 150 words worth of lore narrated by Slave Utala and transcribed by Nerdy Roman Guy.

Every league start I do a typing exercise where I sight-type the lore from the museum in an A5 side quest. Everyone else skips it because the reward is just like two orb of regret points. Path of Exile has a chat panel in the lower left side of the screen. You can type "/global 5555" to get into a channel where a bunch of people from the forums hang out. If you join the official Something Awful discord, you can join the SA guild which gives you access to fabulous prizes in the shared stash tab.

Years ago, when I did this Saturday evening ritual, I saw a dude in /g chat complaining about somebody ruining the /5555 chat for him with meaningless spam. He got dunked in both chat channels as I completed my routine. One of my favorite and most cherished posting moments.
