You can also follow hashtags so you can see everything with that hashtag among all the servers you're federated with. #CatsOfMastodon is a pro follow. (It's recommended that you capitalize words in hashtags for screen readers to be able to parse them correctly, similarly it's encouraged to add alt text to your images before posting.) It's also suggested to join a smaller server because admins are more likely to be responsive if you do have to report a shithead.
