My ops manager's mom has dementia, and about a year or two ago she was in the starting stages of it. She'd brought her 2015 Explorer (or Edge, not sure) to the dealer for an oil change, and was talked into trading it in for a new one Right then and there.

The SUV was bought new, paid off, KBB value was something like $12.5k. They gave her $5k credit on trade-in. It took everything he had for her son not to drive the new one through the plate glass windows of the dealership. He contacted an attorney to see about elder abuse... who said there was nothing he could do because her signature was on everything, and there hadn't been an official diagnosis.

This. Your warranty is valid at any Toyota dealership in the country you purchased the car in.

Kinda similar taking a Saturn to a Chevy dealer for a recall (Saturn had since been dissolved, GM told me to take it to any Chevy dealer, and it was literally a Chevy Cobalt with a Saturn body anyway). Fuckers called and demanded $189 to even look at it, despite it being there for a recall. Then they went ahead and looked at it after I told them to pound sand and demanded several thousand to fix it.

Took one call to GM. Service manager called me an hour later and told me to "pick up [my] loving car, but we didn't fix it, don't come back". Boy, they definitely showed me, and earned my business! Took it to another dealer that did the recall work in <2 hours, gave me a ride to a nearby restaurant, picked me back up, offered to let me test drive anything (even a Corvette) on the lot. Salespeople knew they weren't getting a sale out of me, but it was dead slow, so the ones that knew the cars were happy to just bullshit about cars a bit.

Man, it's almost as if dealers are a bad thing.
Honestly, they keep doing poo poo like this, it only drives the manufacturers to dissolve the whole thing at some point.

i was looking at something like these before, dang shoulda thought of that for prime day. how well does the dual lens thing work? can you switch the screen to showing one / the other / both, or is it split screen all the time? how rigid is the "semi-rigid" neck on those? i assume that means it's bendable but holds its shape?

Sorry I missed this- yes, you can switch to one/the other/both, but it doesn't do a reasonable "crop" and instead just hamfistedly squishes two pictures side-by-side. It's still very usable, just goofy. And yeah - it's semi-bendable shape holding like a piece of wire is crammed in the middle (as I expect it is)

I'm sure several manufacturers would already like to nuke their dealerships from orbit. The dealerships, aware that they're about as popular with consumers as herpes, have passed laws in every state to make sure you have to buy through them.

Dealership laws are so blatantly corrupt I almost can't believe they're still a thing. I mean, corruption is mostly the point of the political class so I'm not that surprised but still. I guess it's good that it's mostly limited to cars and not all goods and services.

Dealership laws are also entirely state level, and while dealers aren't rich enough to matter as big donors in national politics, they ARE rich enough to buy the right state house/Senate committee chairman.

nice, this is good to know. i was worried about the opposite, where it was permanently split screen (or fullscreening one would just give you a half). i take it that you like it overall?

That Porsche twitches on the initial attempt to accelerate, the driver seems to have reacted and then tried again a few seconds later where the Porsche becomes fully commited to sliding out and off the road.

Seems like something failed or the rear wheel wasnt properly mounted during the stop?

I know cameras make cars look slower than they really are, but that thing wasn't under any sort of power. It's a mystery but doesn't look natural.

Oh, I have. It sounds like they are "aware" that the dealer has been doing this. I am sure that the failson that took over after dad died 5 years ago is the reason. Never was a huge fan of them since their sales tactics were real pushy, but they had what I wanted.

Wasn't the Honda E kind of poo poo? I remember people complaining the dash-wide display had a really poor refresh rate and was actually unpleasant to look at and stuff like that.

Also, wasn't it only sold in countries that already tax the hell out of large cars? I don't think it ever came to the US.

There was hate because Honda watered down the original concept:

Never been in one but my impression from the different reviews was that it was good and nice to drive but too expensive for the ev range.

It's definitely not kei car sized but not big either. It probably suffers from the same thing as the Ioniq 5.

It's a hatchback civic behind it.

Dashboard aesthetics aside it's a perfectly fine vehicle for cutting about in. A bit too expensive but then it's a seemingly standard EV mark up for the industry considering there's a £34/38k Vauxhall Corsa EV :eyepop:
