E90 gang what kind of fuel economy do you all get? I noticed today I'm averaging 13.6 in my 328i... I do a lot of city driving, and I guess I do tend to rev it out where I can but that seems extra low?

It has been making an annoying noise for the last 400 miles but no real symptoms other than "is loud even at like 30 mph in 5th gear". Then this week I got ABS/TCS/4X4 warnings but my code reader tells me it's just a wheel speed sensor

I'm 24ish highway and 18 around town. If I dipped below that I'd start Asking Questions.

24-25 highway and 18-20 around town tracks with what I remember of the N52s.

Also turns out that I'm getting a solid 19 on both the N55 and B58 for Ye Olde Daycare Loope, which I'm doing up to four times per day, since they don't have a nurse, I'm the one running out to dose the kid with insulin. Swapping cars makes me hate the pirelli all seasons so much more.

I did wrap up the M Sport caliper swap on the 440, but the brake pedal isn't quite where I want it. I'm heading out in about an hour to have RTT Tuning bleed it. The kids are at the "Won't nap, but can't help with cars yet" phase, so going to just have someone else do it I guess.

Can’t help with cars seems like an attitude more than a phase!

Let them polish your wrenches for you, I am sure that sucking on oily greasy metal is great for them, builds character!

My son would draw on things, my daughter would probably just start hitting the cars with the wrench.

Also lol at having an xdrive in this parking lot, really makes the wheel gap look absurd. The GR Supra looks sharp though.

Alarbus
Mar 31, 2010
Trip report, they vacuum and mechanically bled the brakes, feels much better than my attempt at it. I guess I could have improved it with further attempts, but this works. I'd say it's 95% matching the black car, and that's fair, I determined the SN2H brake package does include the M3/M4 brake booster and master cylinder, so there's a bit of mechanical difference yet. Not worth swapping those at this point.

That seems not great..... I get 14.9 in my E92 M3 in town and I do a burnout and rev it to 8300 on every opportunity, 22ish if you drive at 100 miles an hour for 4 hours straight.

Same. My lifetime average on my E90 M3 was a touch over 16mpg. Extended highway trips saw 22-23.

What we’re saying is if you’re going to live with poo poo gas mileage in a BMW it might was well be a V8.

Wait wat?
My E39 525iA gets about 30 MPG (US) at 100-110km/h but only like 15 MPG in city traffic. Really sub 50km/h and it's a pig when it comes to fuel economy. Above that it's pretty good for what it is though.

For a hot minute I was dead set on an E91 M3 build. For me that’s a perfect car that I would drive forever. Keep at it!

I do think the most power / best gas mileage is a fun calculation. I’m sure the Corvettes are up there as well. But 500+hp and 30+mpg highway is pretty drat cool.

I need to give an Alfa update soon, it has been a while.

The e9x m3 has a pretty small gas tank too, less than 16gal, so you're going to be spending a lot of time pumping gas or on the way to pump gas.

I did a thing today...

It was closer to 42 before I hit some rural 2 lane highways for the final bit. If I can get even close to that on my actual commute I'll be very, very happy.

Nice! How's the responsiveness? I can't remember if I've had a b48 loaner

Did it come with the lovely Pirelli all seasons BMW insists are fine? I think I'm going to shuffle sets around and hope the '19 and '15 have the same tpms, I'd rather drive on the a/s3 tires than the Pirellis, and leave these to be ignored on the car I don't drive in the winter.

That would probably look fine if they got the black trim/chrome delete option. Nothing makes the G11 look like a boomer magnet more than ordering it with chrome trim :barf:

I can't really judge responsiveness yet as I had it in eco pro like 99% of the time. The ZF8 shifts very fast and smooth though! Gonna take care of the fluid in it and the rear diff in the not too distant future. It's on some Pirelli Cinturato's right now. Pretty sure they're not run flats? Not sure what I'll end up replacing them with. I do have a winter set from my F80 that I'm gonna use for it. Hopefully the tires will clear for a season until I need new ones that are the correct size. I think they're something like 245/50/18 or something like that.

Alarbus
Mar 31, 2010
The Pirelli Cinturato are the stock tire, and they're garbage. I hated them on the e90 328, and I hate them more on the 440. If I turn traction control off, I can make them squeal every time. I mean, we have a lot of pig processing here so I just sound like a "piggy truck" as the daycare kids call it.

I guess for a commuter they're okay, but when you try to make the drive interesting it'll be apparent.

I'm doing the daycare run up to four times per day for insulin shots, I have to make it interesting somehow. At least actual school will have a nurse

Those would probably be my number one choice but I don't know if they're what I actually need for a highway commuter.

Oh, I need to do plugs too. And I'll probably knock out an oil change ASAP as well. I know it was done less than 5k miles ago but it's something I always try and get done. I think I'll have to order oil. The only thing even close that I can get locally is the Castrol 5w30 Euro formula.

Hi BMW thread, I recently decided to get a convertible before my health is completely ruined and ended up getting a 2018 440i xDrive coup. I've been pleased with the car but noticed it has the M-Sport package, from what I can tell on the road many BMWs have the M badge on them however this one does not have it aside from the interior. I initially assumed the previous owner removed the badge to swap all the lettering and grills to the dark grey color (It came with the chrome grills with the fancy M-Spec color snap on thingy's) however looking online I can't seem to find any of the same car with an M badge, is this normal?

Fret not about badges. People know it’s a BMW.

Checked and my 118 is riding on OEM Bridgestone Turanzas, not sure what the eventual replacement will be because these were pretty fresh when I bought the car. Also have it’s next service (including the every-two-years Japan shaken service, ala MOT or TÜV) scheduled for next month. Still very happy with the driving and ownership experience.

Everywhere I have lived autozone/oriely/napa/etc always had people working in their parking lot and seemed to not care despite every one of them having big rear end signs that say DO NOT WORK ON YOUR CAR IN THE PARKING LOT. I am sure it is liability related so YMMV. There are also places in some areas that let you rent a lift and tools but those arent really that obvious to find.

Nice pickup! Looks like you have the adaptive LED's too. I have them on my F80 and they're fantastic. That's pretty much the only missing option I would have liked on my 330i. The standard "upgrade" LED's aren't the best but I think it's mostly an aiming issue. Mine were basically pointed at the ground. I'm glad I tested them out before I had to drive home from work with them like that. They were bad. I adjusted them up and it's worlds better. I think I have a little farther I can go too.

SlapActionJackson posted:

Yeah, I'll probably go with an LL-01 oil. The manual specifies LL-01 FE or LL-14 FE+ which is now LL-17 FE but it seems common to switch off the 0w20 outside of warranty. It looks like LL-01 can be used in place of LL-01 FE. I did PM a guy on the BMW forums that has some sort of oil background and a shitload of knowledge on the subject to see what he recommends. I've followed his recommendation for my F80 but there seems to be less specific stuff for the B48 outside of the 0w20 oils.

Adaptive LED has the distinct disadvantage that driving rental cars at night will now give you eye strain (or maybe I'm just getting old)

M sport trim package is basically the thing that differentiates private owned bmw vs fleet cars, not having the trim package is a big step down don't let anyone tell you otherwise
