it would vary from person to person but my mom knows who The Miz and Maryse are because they have a reality show and my sister knows who the bellas, john cena, and bryan danielson are because of total bellas. neither have watched wrestling before

Roman doesn't have the same impact likely due to being heel when the mainstream media when they're interested want faces (This is likely ad-driven). Hogan retained some cultural cache after joining nWo (which helps to explain why it went over like it did) but I chalk it up to the uniqueness to the media of a shakeup regarding long established norms (The Death of Superman being another example).
