If you stick to the following tab and aren’t following the type of person that’s emboldened to post a bunch of bigotry or child porn or whatever then Twitter is still basically what it was a year ago but increasingly broken in small but annoying ways. Twitter won’t die until it either breaks completely or until enough people move to a competitor that the network effect disappears.

Twitter won’t die until it either breaks completely or until enough people move to a competitor that the network effect disappears. this is true if you only read the direct tweets and don't dive into replies (or if you read the replies but the people you follow all respond to each other). the change to boost blue checks to the top of replies mean any tweet that gets a moderate amount of replies is flooded with the most garbage brained takes even seen. even with blue blockers it's not worth reading replies because you need to scroll past dozens of blocked replies before seeing anyone without a check basically, twitter still works fine if you're making GBS threads thoughts onto the internet, but engaging in conversations is entirely unusable. funnily enough, musk has optimized the site for the type of poster he wishes to be (trump: only makes direct tweets, never ever replies) and not the type of poster he is (a reply guy)
