Hah, I had to join because I needed RPEQ and my company was pretty closely tied in with EA from the point of view of supporting their CPD programme, so we were heavily pushed to using EA over any other certification that BPEQ recognised.

Ironically, I'm going to have to go through the whole process again here in the UK to get CEng with IMechE, as they stopped recognising EA as equivalent a handful of years ago.

Yeh I have no need for RPEQ. It seems mostly useful in the civil industry and not really anywhere else from my experience. I've never met an RPEQ outside of my time in civil barring the guys from RME in Toowoomba who seemed to all just go get it

RPEQ is legally required for any “engineering work” done within QLD, or for use in QLD. That is, all “engineering work” must be done under the “direct supervision” of an RPEQ. This is the case for any engineering discipline.

“Engineering work” is basically where any technical decision must be made. Calculations are the obvious one, but it’s a pretty broad umbrella. The canonical counter-example is that simply following the wiring guide for wire colours/sizes is not engineering work, because all the decisions involving engineering have been done and baked into the guide.

For dinky fly-by-night companies, this just means the boss has it and all the engineers eventually report to them and the company simply hopes they never get attention of the board. For more established ones, there’ll be a process in doc control for an RPEQ sign-off. As the senior engineer of a team, that was part of my role.

A Queensland man has been arrested for allegedly driving a ride-on mower down a street while four times over the alcohol limit.

quote:

"I just thought I'd drive this old girl over to mow my daughter's lawn," he said.

The officer replies: "Not at 1 o'clock in the morning, and not drunk."

The driver allegedly returned a 0.191 blood alcohol result and was arrested.

We went to the albatross centre at Dunedin and visited the little guy that's currently on the cam. Got a private tour which allowed us a ton of time and proximity. Both parents in attendance and a perfect day for flying so there was nonstop action from dozens of adults getting swoopy at eye level.
If I didn't already live exactly where I want, I'd move to the Otago Peninsula. Or the Catlins.

Ah right. I only ever worked with RPEQ's when I was on the Toowoomba range crossing project, in each other role I did in Qld we never had an RPEQ. IMO engineers Australia is overpriced for what it's offering, given that ImechE and the other engineering council institutes are all recognised more globally. If there was a need for RPEQ at a national level (RPEA or something similar) though I'd aim to get registered. My union (Professionals Australia) does help members get RPEng status and will also pay us if we're RPEng to assess others so maybe I'll go down that route

You should've had some form of RPEQ otherwise that place was bascially operating outside of the legislation and can be sued into the dirt. But at the end of the day, so many interstate dinky places will do work that ends up in QLD and it's never certified, it's like playing whack-a-mole and they tend to only pursue the obvious violations.

Yeh, RPEng is a popular route to getting RPEQ in lieu of EA. It's cheaper and the requirements are way less burdensome. But my work basically herded us into EA so EA it was for me. They paid for it so
I believe the NER is slowly moving towards a national equivalent set of laws, but the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly indeed.

I'm in the video for Get Activated, they filmed it at the Old Museum in Brisbane and got a bunch of us teenagers drunk on a school night and kept us there dancing til 2am. Then we wound up on Fly TV
