This or Akao's ability to go on the right oath or whatever let her override people. Him and Akao working together on this would be really interesting.

I thought the magnet powers were due to some piece of tech-equipment rather a special ability.

And I think this is Rion Akao impersonating Uzuki rather than Uzuki impersonating Rion.
We see Sakamoto take down Uzuki on screen, and it seems very unlikely Sakamoto would fail to kill him or let him live. He’s a god-tier assassin out for revenge for his fallen friend.
Meanwhile (I think) we’re only told that Rion died, it’s possible that Uzuki was lying about it or speaking in metaphors.

The mentions about X’s mannerisms and posture being different from Uzuki’s are because it’s a different person. Also Rion Akao was more dangerous than Uzuki in a straight fight so that inconsistency is explained if Uzuki persuaded Rion rather than killing her (yeah Uzuki killed the old order boss, but that kind of trick only worked because of the poison and them trusting him, he’d need a completely different trick here).

Witch watch: haha, I completely forgot who Kanshi was fighting so I was as confused as he was for a while. I want to imagine the sleep guy being both amused and frustrated at Kanshi’s dream with Nico’s dumb magic.

I'm guessing a draw between her and Hikaru, where she scores better with the judges, but slightly worse with the audience and stream. It might be hacky, I guess, but the story keeps going on about how rakugo isn't one thing, so I can see them both winning.

That's my guess too. Although I'd be worried about Hikaru's mental health if that were the result. In a way, it feels like losing to Akane might actually be better for her.

Yeah I think I'm fine with Akane Losing here. It sets Hikaru up as more of a rival for Akane to surpass.

Hikaru barely winning with Akane getting more recognition from the in person crowd/judges while Hikaru and her style working better streaming would set up a fun dichotomy between the two.

Whether she wins or loses, she will probably move forward in one fashion or another. If she wins, the narrative goal is obvious, but if she loses, I can imagine her getting tutelage from the Arakawa school e.g. something along the lines of expanding your horizons and stepping out of your father's shadow to develop your own form. Her dad may visit or call her after the performance to either congratulate her or comfort her, and depending on the result, tell her to impress them all or to now practice her own Rakugo. There is no death fights or whatever, and she is not starved for cash, as she lives with her mom. So the only performance that has actual consequences are the promotions.

Reading the new Jiangshi X, I laughed at The protagonist’s terrified facial expression after being told “You saved the world! Nice work!” I don’t think this was actually intended as a gag, though.

Actually, maybe this was meant to show the protagonist was genuinely traumatized by his experiences, which certainly seems plausible under the circumstances, although having this happen right before a three-year time skip sort of dodges the issue, doesn’t it? That’s our Jiangshi X, always taking the most generic option!

Yeah, especially since I think Hikaru wants an all-encompassing victory over Akane, and wouldn't be as satisfied that people irl didn't like her performance as much as Akane's (especially the judges). She'll take the W since it helps her out professionally, but won't feel that she got one over on her love interest rival.

I took his expression to be one of shock, although becoming genuinely traumatized by his experiences would be the first thing that would make that manga interesting.

It could still be something he'd have to deal with years from now, in a "gotta get over it to reach the next level!" shonen move

Yeah. Author makes it explicit, but the sudden shift between Erina's desire to be stronger and her trying to set up Chinatsu in the same chapter basically endeared me to her character. It's a ship I don't want to sail but it's giving this arc something more.

I read the first few chapters of Marriagetoxin and I couldn't help but wonder why, if the Grandma is so obsessed with getting an heir, why doesn't she just have one of the women in the clan act as a surrogate and get a sperm donation from the main character? I'm assuming that if everyone in the poison clan is as crazy as the Grandma, that someone would be willing to volunteer as a surrogate.

Mikane and The Sea Woman: I still have no idea what kind of theme, or even genre this series wants to do.Supernatural Slice of Life? Psychological Drama? Romcom? Horror? Battle Shonen? There are hints for all of those in the two first chapter. Still, I remain curious about where this is going.

Shojo Null thoughts: While “poor oppressed robots” is a traditional sci-fi trope, it’s a bit surprising to see this now, when LLMs have put creative types in a “gently caress the robots” mood. Though perhaps that’s the reason for making the Gijin meat rather than metal (besides the extra edginess it adds).

And of course Marie, is, for now, a bad guy, though I expect she’ll chill out a bit and decide to stick to killing people associated with the government conspiracy before she kills anyone too sympathetic.

Edit: Do they even have Gijin outside of Japan? It seems a bit much, even for an initially-villainous character, to kill all humans over one country’s crimes! Or is this working on the common convention that “the world” really means Japan and “Japan” really means either Tokyo or one fictional city?
