They should make a horror movie that's marketed like it's about sleep paralysis and maybe like a kid keeps seeing a sleep paralysis demon. And for like 75% of the movie that's all it is, until some kind of crazy BS happens and it's revealed that it's been Freddy the whole time. If Robert Englund won't do it then just make him some unnamed stunt guy; have his face be like a squirming mass of flesh or make him a full on shadow person or whatever.

I feel like there's a lot of potentially great horror movie premises that are some form of "you slow-play things for the first half the movie and then SURPRISE it's actually a Jason/Freddy/Dracula/Godzilla/Predator movie" but unfortunately with modern media today it's almost impossible to keep something like that under wraps long enough to pull it off.

Whatever I may feel about the film itself, it ruled a lot that Adam Wingard made a Blair Witch film (requel) but didn't let anybody not actively involved with its making know about it and didn't even let the SDCC viewers for it know about it until the title popped up onscreen quote:Prior to the film's premiere at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con International, the fact that the film was a Blair Witch sequel remained a closely guarded secret,[10] as the film was shot under the title The Woods.[10] According to the film's writer, Barrett, the film's secrecy was done to prevent backlash among Internet commenters, who the filmmakers felt would react negatively to news of a reboot.[11] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMEgSLetjHw

Amityville is clearly a terrible brand but its definitely not a franchise in any meaningful sense of the word. I'll 100% agree with that. And yeah its much like the other public domain type stuff that just has tons of adaptions and interpretations because there's nothing stopping them.

Spermanent Record posted:Have you got any horror short story recommendations for Grade 7, 12 years olds? Bruce Coville’s Book of ____ (Monsters, Nightmares, Aliens, Ghosts, Magic, and Spine Tinglers) series are great for this. Each category has two books to it, and each book is a curated collection of short stories fitting the theme, with a nice variety of authors, though some of them do show up regularly. There’s contributions from Joe Lansdale, Jane Yolen, Terry Jones, Ray Bradbury, Michael Markiewicz, Neal Shusterman, and Al Sarrantonio (whose “Snow” still creeps me out), among others.

Yes that was in 3. My impression is people like the Nightmare films up to 3 and only hate them after that. Dream Warriors ws always the one on Cable when I was growing up. Also I hope James from Dead Meat does a redone Kill Count/review soon for Nightmare cuz he's gotten so much better since those and he's redone Friday so why not the much shorter franchise.

The worst thing that the NOES franchise did was the terrible backstory for Freddy where his mother (trigger warning for SA)was a nun who was raped by 100 madmen, He worked better when he was just the neighbour who happened to murder children, that's far creepier. No reason behind why he's so evil, he just is like that.
