Okay, it's been two hours, so I'm going to pick. I'll have to hope that one of the defensemen I'm looking at is available next time around, because I can't leave this next pick on the board. It's pretty surprising that he's still available. My team needs another scoring winger to bump Cooley down to play less minutes with Pavelski as he develops. The Whalers select Evander Kane, who should be good for 30-35 goals and a lot of shots and play-driving. 3 more years at a modest $5.125m AAV. I might shuffle my lines now. Rantanen - Barzal - EKane Kempe - Eriksson-Ek - Mangiapane ??? - Pavelski - Cooley ??? - Fox Slavin - Marino Swayman As a note, I'm building this team to actually be cap manageable for the future.

Ok so my team… Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- Reinhart (FLA) Matteli (ARI) - Thomas (STL) - Raddysh (CHI) ? - Giroux (OTT) - ? Hughes (VAN)- ? Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS) Georgiev (COL) Skinner (EDM) Reinhart is a part time C, so I’m going to move him up to the top line. He can take draws when Zib gets kicked out. I think that top line has some serious scoring power between those three. The second line is a young guys line. Matteli is a ridiculous playmaker and Thomas is a stud. TBD if Raddysh sticks there. That leaves Giroux on line three, though he probably eats a lot more minutes than that would imply. Defense still being worked on. Goalies are set. Georgiev is the starter but Skinner is behind pushing him. It’s a risky pairing but the price is pretty good for the next few years and they’re both likely real world NHL 1A options. Plus goalies are voodoo so pick guys you like, which is what I did.

Laf kinda baffles me, besides his lack of minutes, and I’m really not sure about him but Kakko is a really smart player and has a defined skill set (puck possession beast using his big butt ala Jagr in the corners) and if the coaching change/minutes go his way there’s a solid chance it’s a very good season for him.

Gonna pivot to "have goalie depth to ride the hot hand" a la Fleury/Murray several years ago, and pick up Filip Gustavsson, G, MIN. Marchand - Crosby - Laine RNH - Hintz - Toffoli ? - ? - ? ? - ? - ? ? Josi - Hronek Morrissey- ? Chychrun - ? ? Vasilevskiy Gustavsson ? A few guys several rounds early, a few guys I feel like I picked up later than expected, and $47M left to fill 11 roster spots plus the prospects. Decent position I guess? The two players I really wanted went after I was passed, which sucks, so I think its only fair I take on a contract that maybe kinda sucks (for only 2 more years). Columbus will take one (1) Jamie Benn and stick him on the third line. Maybe second. Depends who else I get.
