So re: Wright, this is another question on the rules. I thought prospects were players who were not going to be lineup regulars, and we had to specify whether or not they were prospects or not by that metric. I drafted Cooley as a regular, not as a prospect, because I think he's ready to play a regular top 9 role in the lineup next year.

The picks are pretty tough now. I could take any of 5 or 6 players right now. I think I need another solid defenseman, again on an excellent fairly long-term team-friendly contract. The Hartford Whalers select Artem Zub. I think my team has an elite defense corps. There is a lack of high-end offense for sure, but I'm hoping I can create balanced lines that can roll to make up for it. I actually might switch Mangy and Kane again to help with that. I am also giving myself a ton of cap flexibility and excellent contracts to work with. The NY Rangers take Jake DeBrusk, who despite being a whiner was one of the very best LWs in the league last year. Hopefully he's okay playing on the 3rd line in a 16-team league, because he blossomed into a hell of a two-way player last year. Assuming Jagr doesn't take him, I also take Drew Doughty, who still played at a super high level the last couple of years, Norris winner, multiple Cups, a shithead, etc. His offense suffered a bit, but he was stellar defensively, which works great for my 3rd pair. I’m a bit surprised this guy is still available. I’ll take another prospect - Marco Rossi (MIN). His NHL stats over 21 games don’t tell the real story here - he’s got high end offensive upside and is near PPG through 116 games in the AHL coming right out of junior.

Quick write-up on my last pick. I decided it was time to take a prospect because I sensed a run on them was coming soon, and Will Smith is on of the top-end guys left. I also feel like my offense could use another young stud waiting in the wings since it will need a jolt. Plays a pretty sound 200-foot game, can skate like hell, and has the makings of a very fine first or second line center. I expect him to get some chances on my roster within the next 2 seasons.
