mustard_tiger posted:The thing with Volvo is they are terribly unreliable. It's crazy how many different things failed in my friends cars. It didn't go 1 month without something breaking on those cars. The 240 was legit though and a tank. I got the feeling the Ford era was pretty bad but it got really horrible when Geely bought them. Those turbo and supercharged four cylinder engines seem like ticking time bombs. Growing up in Sweden in the 80s Volvo was seen as the reliable option compared to SAAB.

Yeah, Ford era was the downfall. My V40 was great until the transmission started going and electrical gremlins all over the place. I loved that car, but everything fell apart at once and I had to get rid of it.

I’ve now owned my S60R for just over a year, and the only non-standard maintenance I’ve had to do to it is a front CV joint for the prop shaft due to it clicking occasionally on accel and decel. I will admit toplitzin had done his due diligence with the servicing before I bought it, but it’s been very reasonable to me thus far.

I did 155k miles in my V50, sold it with 212k miles on it, and the only unscheduled maintenance on it was the cooling fan and two leaky injectors (1.6 diesel). The 2022 Consumer Reports Auto Reliability chart places Volvo squarely in the middle, right behind Hyundai and Genesis. In JD Powers "U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study 2022" Volvo places third from last, and Hyundai and Genesis third and fourth from the top. Truly a land of contrast.

I had a 2007 S60R for 5 years and had no end of problems with it. A few I remember include: - Alarm controller malfunctioned and had to be replaced. - Passenger front lock mech failed. - Driver's window regulator failed. - Moonroof mechanism failed ($$$). - All 4 shocks and many other suspension components had to be replaced between 80 and 110k miles. (wear components, but my ATS didn't require any of this) - Auto trans failed and replaced around 90k miles. - Rod knock above 5000 rpm @ 135k miles, traded it in. I wound up spending nearly as much in repairs as I paid for it.

"We're still making the stuff you want, we're just refusing to sell it to you". Always been a solid policy for automakers in the US market, I suppose.

This is me but with the Corolla Touring Sport. It’s far more practical than my Corolla hatchback and it has an awesome panoramic moonroof.

Most of the videos end up samey same but thats cos he has a method for working on stuff. I play an ep when I can as some nice slow tv style stuff. Also Mook is the cutest thing ever. It was a video on his channel going to a NASCAR event that made me realyl feel it's something I have to experience. Humphreys fucked around with this message at 17:29 on Aug 4, 2023 |

The channel sounds a lot like VGG. I’m certain Derek is a chud supreme but it doesn’t really come up much on the show. he’s really good at demonstrating what he’s doing and thinking and knows how to keep an audience interested. But I never, ever want to know his thoughts on politics or social issues

Darchangel posted:Ford still makes plenty of cars that they don't sell in the US. It's currently down to the Focus, Escort, Mondeo, and Taurus, and the Focus is expected to be killed in 2025. Looks like the primary market for the remaining three is China. Chris Knight posted:Do they make cars in the US they don't sell there? No, at this point the Mustang is the only Ford car still built or sold in the US, and it's trending towards it being the last Ford car sold anywhere.

Only if you count the China built Escort (a 2nd gen Focus) and Mondeo which is also the Middle East Taurus. Otherwise, in "the west", the Focus and Mustang are it, and the Focus is gone by 2025. Fiesta and Mondeo are dead. (July 2023 and 2022 respectively)

Their methods are a little different which is fun to compare. Like Derek always likes to pour 2 cycle gas down the carb to try and protect the rings and all that and he'll say like don't just blast the carb with starter fluid or brake clean or whatever. Then Junkyard Digs will be like, OK first things first, we're gonna spray 50 gallons of brake clean down the carb.
