the party in power who the coup leader was affiliated with anyway was theoretically the leftist one but lol

this is really just kind of infighting between the songhai elite about foreign policy and trade (and personal ambitions), and the coup guys are firmly in the right on that front

The accounts of it read like the expedition to Tibet too, in terms of geography, remoteness, resistance encountered etc. It seemed far flung and not particularly threatening.

that was under Emperor Theodorus,. Menelik (the founder of Ethiopia and but then the king of shewa ) used the weapons the British left him as payment to start expanding southwards.

im just noting with some irony that this whole plot was written years before the collapse of the real world iran deal for nearly identical reasons and that the hardline position in madame secretary (which to be clear isnt what prevails in the show) is actually an escalation over what trump did because it involved bombing raids
