In fairness directx 9.0c's like a 95mb download? and CDs really don't have much space relative to how big modern files are, I believe they top out at around 700~ MB. Touhou games have been 450+MB installed for awhile now, so it was only a matter of time before one of them got too big to fit a directx download in as well. Even with compression though there's just only so much you can do to keep a CD relevant, it's a 40 year old format designed for music.

blank CDs also either cost the same or more as blank DVDs (and have been like that for awhile afaik), i'm pretty sure it's just one of those tradition things he'd rather not give up on unless he absolutely has to.

I love zun's afterword spiel about AIquote:When the AI boom got going around last year, I figured (in my contrarian way) that "if AI takes the world by storm, homebrew work will conversely go up in value," and decided to make a game that was, first and foremost, just plain chock full of stuff. That's this game. which is also why the game's so long

Honestly, I think the biggest reveal in this game is that Ran is from the Animal Realm and is an old yakuza buddy of Yuuma's.

She's additionally a old acquaintance of Saki and Yachie! Also a big fan of the way how said reveal is dropped also just scrubs the whole "actually Ran's just a computer program installed over/burying the original Youkai" plot point and keeps her as her own person. Always felt kinda out of line with how Yukari's been portrayed in recent years.
