That block of text basically white washed the Japanese rule and hand waved the Taiwanese rebels they killed. But whatever.

The ending to that screed is so bizarre. If it's a move to distinguish yourselves from China, why would you highlight that the Republic of China, governed by the Kuomintang, who founded the modern state of Taiwan engaged in reprisal killings? We're nothing like China, we love to kill hitler youths?

Is this a hunting trophy?

they constructed a bridge in my country in ~4 years (pelješac bridge) which finally connected our fractured coastline

On 15 September 2017, it was announced that China Road and Bridge Corporation, Austrian Strabag and Italian-Turkish consortium Astaldi/Içtas applied for a bridge construction tender. The Austrians offered the cost of 2.6 billion HRK (€351 million), the Italian-Turkish offer was 2.6 billion HRK (€341 million), while the Chinese offer was 2.1 billion HRK (€278 million).[45] On 15 January 2018, Hrvatske ceste made a formal decision according to which China Road and Bridge Corporation won the tender. In addition to the lowest price, CRBC also offered to complete the project six months faster than required.

So maybe this is the reason Mr Foreign Minister lost his job. I am not saying I have more evidence of it but this sounds like a much more believable explanation than the guy just lost his job over having an affair. And so far the penalty doesn't look like its severe enough to make QG lose both his party membership and his employment in the foreign ministry, but rather just get sent to a desk job to retire. Maybe he just hosed the wrong person by accident. We will know in a few years. If this is the extent of the issue then somebody can talk about it down low in a few years. It's less severe than say the top generals in the PLA rocket force got repaced by outsiders. That looks like a money corruption case.

This is very likely. loving the wrong person is one thing, but if he tried to hide the affair then it becomes a vector to compromise you.

it seems like a bit of an overreaction, inform the guy that his squeeze might be an op but i don't see a need to just semi-disappear him like this. or does the party see it as "he fell for it once, he'll fall for it again and that time he might actually hurt us"

Dude got caught loving a spy and you think losing his job that deals with several crucial information that has national security implications is just a overreaction?

It's the proper reaction and it's not like they're losing anything with the loss of him, there's hundred of guys who's now looking at a sweet promotion.

This isnt an over reaction at all. In the US its grounds for immediate termination of your security clearance if you have a secret affair, add additional points if its a foreign national and then on top of its a possible foreign asset. No security clearance, no job.

isn't Qin Gang still on the state council or whatever it's called?

and don't some people get kicked out of the party for having an affair? if he only lost the foreign minister position, maybe it was just the security risk of possible blackmail rather than colluding with the enemy.

Discussion of him has been scrubbed from social media, no one has heard from him, and all articles about him were deleted from the foreign ministry's website. The foreign ministry initially attributed his absence due to "health reasons", but this was also cut from official transcripts. Spokespersons now have said they have "no information" on what happened.

Was his mistress actually a spy?

The firing isn't the part being called an overreaction. If he made a public resignation for "personal" or health reasons it'd get way less attention and speculation. Also his alleged mistress was a Chinese citizen and state media employee

Keep in mind that woman was sending cryptic signals on social media to hint at her connection with QG. So maybe she has more dirt.

But right now I think Wang Yi is just bridging the gap until they officially announce a new FM in a few months.

It's possible QG made the report himself because he hadn't dug the hole too deep yet.

If your wife makes a stink about your affair then yes that would cause inner party discipline. But that's not the case here.

The Petraeus scandal is a series of events that garnered strong media attention when an extramarital affair between retired four-star general and then-Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell became public information. Petraeus had chosen Broadwell to be his official biographer. She co-authored his biography, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus, when Petraeus was the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) commander.[1][2] On November 9, 2012, she was reported to have been involved in the extramarital affair with Petraeus that triggered his resignation as Director of the CIA when it was discovered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).[3]
Summary and chronology

The case was initiated by Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Frederick W. Humphries II after he received a complaint about cyberstalking from Jill Kelley. Humphries reported it to his superiors and then to Republican congressional leaders Dave Reichert and Eric Cantor. He then reported it to FBI Director Robert Mueller after receiving complaints from Kelley that she was being stalked, on the grounds that the stalker "seem[ed] to know the comings and goings of a couple of generals".[4] The FBI investigation uncovered an extramarital affair between Petraeus and Paula Broadwell, the latter being Kelley's cyberstalker.

From the summer of 2012, FBI Director Robert Mueller and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder decided to withhold information until after the U.S. presidential election on November 6.

You cannot vote Hillary Clinton because she is worse than Trump.
When the FBI withholds information for strictly electoral reasons, it's to protect democracy. When China dies anything with information, it's too squash hopes of democracy.
