I am kind of interested in seeing how bad this bug was that they needed to do a last minute delay rather than releasing it and making it a known issue; I am guessing it is easy to do even if you know about it already.

From the current Visual Novel sale, I highly recommend GNOSIA. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1608290/GNOSIA/ It's primary gameplay loop is a pretty interesting single-player implementation of Wolverine/Mafia with a good overarching story. I honestly blasted through the whole game in a couple of days because I was fascinated by the gameplay. Never played anything like it before or since.

I enjoyed doki doki enough that I read a bunch of other VNs. Having done so doki doki isnt like a deconstruction of VNs or anything it literally is just a VN and high school slice of life -> hosed up poo poo is the most common VN formula.

I ended up grabbing a decent amount of things in the Visual Novel sale (Steins;Gate , Muv-Luv / Muv-Luv Alternative, the Key bundle). I figured they would be great for the steam deck. My visual novel experience is mostly limited to like Phoenix Wright / 999 / 13 Sentinels but I enjoyed all of those so hopefully I'm into some more. I've been meaning to play through Steins;Gate for years.

You might need glasses if you've only seen sparse reports. There are tons of bugs, some of them already reported years ago in the Early Access period are still not fixed. But it's still a great game. I really enjoyed Umineko, but it helps a lot that it has full voice acting (with the mod https://07th-mod.com/home/, which also replaces the godawful pachinko art), I find myself getting bored with games that lack that or some sort of minor interactive element. I was really fascinated by the plot of like The Silver Case and Misericorde, but it's tough having those long, long stretches where you're only reading text. Honestly, a steam deck might help....
