Reading between the lines the eldar path system seems like extreme trauma induced OCD. Gotta get these pots just right or Slanesh will eat my soul.

It's a very vulcan thing, but you can replace logic with whatever one task you feel like doing at the time to keep your focus and emotions in check. There's lots of eldar that keep getting bored and bouncing back and forth from path to path, but as long as they're on some kind of path each time its okay. I like that the true horror isn't losing control of your emotions and falling to slaanesh on the path, it's getting so stuck on a path that you can never change it again. You are pots now. Only pots. You are rightfully respected for your mastery of pot creation and rightfully feared for what you had to give up to attain this level of mastery. You have fallen, but you have fallen to yourself. I like the path of the dreamer, wherein you become a professional sleepy-person whos job is to sleep a lot, for days at a time. The vibe of a craftworld I get from what little fiction has explored them a lot is a wandering commune of weird artists where everybody's needs are taken care of but they're still sad all the time, and I think that's neat. Just make a book about an Iyanden Farseer losing brain cells dealing with the batshit insanity of the Biel-Tan, Saim Hann and Ulthwé petitioners arguing over who gets to use the Infinity Circuit next. Iyanden Only Sane Craftworld.

They probably have too much sway to really be threatened. Despite the air they want to put up as changed it's still a bit of a old boys club. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/08/09/the-end-and-the-death-volume-iii-the-final-cover-reveal/ Ah yeah, they revealed the cover for TEATD Vol 3. Which makes it the fourth iteration of the iconic showdown. As kind of highlighted by GW Twitter; https://twitter.com/warhammer/status/1689290567753048064

Honestly being craftworld seems like one of the more chill ways to live your life in a universe of nightmares, at least until they find you. Seems like Exodite would also be not terrible so long as you weren't getting invaded. Very much a RETVRN type society, though.

He's illustrated some of my all-time favorite Horus Heresy cover images. But it baffles me that this image of the Emperor vs Horus moment he did for Visions of Heresy seems to have been wiped out/forgotten because when they reprinted it they used his second illustration of it (the one to the left of the diorama in the Twitter post). I've always really liked Emps leaping to the side to avoid the terrible downward talon strike from Horus and the incredible surge of energy being expelled, his cloak being torn by Horus's claws and the river of blood and feathers from the recently slain Blood Angels Primarch. Horus's energy field discharging from the Emperors own retaliatory attack. But I guess the Emperor just looks too nimble or something and they needed another cover. Honestly being craftworld seems like one of the more chill ways to live your life in a universe of nightmares, at least until they find you. I think there are a lot of snippets about Craftworld Eldar society that could be cool, but no (good author) has ever filled in the gaps. It sounds interesting that they're kind of post-scarcity, any Eldar can choose to do whatever they want, with some boundaries like the society needs a certain amount of warriors, seers, craftsmen of various types. However all their 'tone', in the absence of any strong vision tying together all the codex snippets, is a really bland and boring 'elves in space' melange. Kind of airy-fairy, lot of contemplating poetry in artificial craftworld meadows. Bit of melancholy aristocracy, last heirs of ancient houses. A dash of pacifistic poets having to become soldiers. It needs some work to imagine how their society and government actually functions, rather than a nebulous socialism with Farseers making strategic decisions and Autarchs appointed for campaigns.

I think part of the problem with Eldar protagonists is that, even by the standards of grimark, the Eldar are the race of utter loving bastards. It's really hard to root for the guys for whom "geez, I'm on track to be mildly inconvenienced in two hundred years, or... I could condemn billions of innocents to a horrible death" is both a no-brainer to choose the latter option and also a fairly common occurrence.
