I think there's a little too much combat and not enough downtime between dungeons (the third dungeon in this game was a complete slog with how long it is and one of the quests is to kill every single enemy in it) but overall I had fun with it.

yeah En Garde(!) looks dope as hell, unfortunately i downloaded the demo and i couldn't run it for poo poo. definitely give it a try if your machine isn't prehistoric, though. holding out for early reviews to see if I buy Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood since i really liked the demo. i'm assuming it won't be too long, given the ambitions of its ~choices matter~ scope, but that's fine since drat that pixel art is tight

Does the full release of En Garde! still have the tone were you are just playing make believe and chasing your brother who's dressed up as a villain and beating up guards who are in on it? Or was that just a demo/tutorial thing? Because that just sapped my interest when playing.

I liked it okay, but honestly it gets a bit dull over time. It is pretty hard, you've got to take your time and use the environment because the enemy types get pretty tough even on Normal difficulty. But it gets a bit tiring by the twentieth arena fight with multiple waves of enemies flooding the place, and the moveset can be a bit boring as well. Didn't know that it was published by Devolver, but it does make sense that it's made by the devs of Gods Will Be Watching and Red Strings Club. It's just got incredible writing, a great premise (an immortal cosmic witch exiled for a thousand years by the leader of her coven summons an ancient demon-being, creates future-reading Tarot-like cards, and gets involved in the politics of her coven), and beautiful pixel art. Haven't been this impressed with what is essentially a narrative point and click in a long, long time. If you enjoy this kind of game at all, don't miss this one.

Shadow Gambit (just posted, twice) is by the same devs that did Shadow Tactics and Desperadoes 3, both fantastic games. It’s the same genre too. I’ll definitely be picking it up. Might try console this time and see how I manage without being able to queue multiple moves.

The timeline is Kennedy does some hinky poo poo at Failbetter (Fallen London and the Sunless games) then leaves to form Weather Factory with his now wife after it blows up internally and his co-founder (the artistic lead) turfs him out. Weather Factory creates Cultist Sim. Further details come out that make the hinky stuff look much much worse and exposes him as sex pesty during the pandemic. The chinese mobile market basically saves Cultist Sim and they have the money to create this sequel which is now out. Weather Factory is Alexis Kennedy. Failbetter is the place where he used to work and has nothing to do with the Cultist Sim games.
