do we think a hypothetical quake 5 would continue the whole strogg thing or be like quake 1 with the weird dimensional stuff. i think more strogg stuff would be kinda pointless after the doom games and revisiting the quake 1 style would be pretty refreshing

all i remember about quake 4 is it being from the everything is brown era, fighting some huge spider mech outside and then being turned into a strogg in first person which was kinda cool but i don't think it actually affected gameplay?

I do wonder what iD is working on. They've been silent since Doom Eternal. Kind of hoping for a Quake reboot like Doom got but Phil was wearing that Hexen shirt. Maybe they bought the ip from Activision or something.

I don't see them returning to online multiplayer only Quake, because Quake Champions flopped really hard.

quake champions seems to be doing pretty well with the pro league stuff and everything but we definitely need a console-only version with crossplay return to quake 1 style would own though i just want to travel to different dimensions chopping people up with an axe and bonus points if they turn it into a grappleaxe like that old mod did and they get 343 to help with the physics with it because the halo grapple owns. but then again hexen lets you launch sheep off catapults and has those gnarly electro gauntlets so idk i guess we win either ways

Gave you more health and changed the hud, let you use Strogg healing machines and read stuff that was gibberish before. While Quake 4 isn't amazing it had a lot of neat ideas, and I feel it fell short the way many shooters did at the time due to the complete shift in focus on what shooters needed. Half Life 2 did a number on all shooters after it for a while. I'd love to see it remade or continued with more interesting colours apart from brown dirt.

Man the compass function and the accessibility poo poo is neat. Captions were such an exception for the longest time and while there’s barely any dialogue in quake 2 I love to finally be able to understand it. Did it already have the hit markers in the original? I’m 99% sure that was a CoD4 era invention.

It's more or less the same levels, but with lower-res textures, lots of very '90s coloured lighting since they had the technology now, an eerie new ambient soundtrack by the guy who did Doom 64, and a hilarious "blurry CRT screen" effect some joker at Night Dive or Id threw over it. Doom 64s ambient soundtrack is fantastic and made the game way scarier. Looking forward to playing Quake 64
