I think almost all of the SNES megaten games have an English translation patch available now. Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei, SMT 1 and 2, if..., the two SNES Majin Tensei games, and probably some poo poo I'm forgetting like some Last Bible games or something.

It's all of them. Last Bible III is the only other game on the system. Really, besides the bevy of mobile games, the only games without some form of English translation at this point in time are a bunch of the Devil Children games, Nine, and the OG Devil Summoner. Everything else either has an official translation, or a fantranslation.

The first one is pretty rough on a gameplay perspective, the second irons out a lot of the issue and also reuses like, 90% of the maps from the original anyway. You do not need to play the first to understand the second game.

In the first one you can have a telepathic conversation with a dog and tell him about your hopes and dreams

You make friends with a Tsuchigumo by giving it booze and then it lets you ride it around the overworld map as a boat

Back then they were all "console exclusive", so that needed a game for each one out there, but that went away as they made games for all consoles as well as porting/remaking the old ones.

It's such an innocuous thing. That bit (endgame spoilers) where in the final dungeon that dog shows up again after having gone through the cycle of reincarnation and is super pissed at humanity unless you actually remember what you told it at the start is so good too.

I’m 17 hours deep into Strange Journey Redux and the game and gameplay is just sucking me right in. The storyline and characters are, so far, extremely interesting. I love the environments and exploration and of course i love the demons. I spent about two hours in The Ingress before realizing it was a Redux add on and completely optional.

I’m currently towards the end of the Bootes sector. How many more are there? Is there a way to acquire more than one Demon Source per demon?

Both very minor spoilers, but if you want to be as blind as possible...
Short answer: There are six more.
Longer answer: Depending on whether you go for old or new endings, there might be something in the range of eight more because of new dungeons.

If you've already acquired and used up a demon's source, you have a small chance to acquire a new one every time it levels up. Or at least, that was how it worked in the original; I don't know if they changed anything with that for Redux.

I know I'm higher on Redux than some, but I thought they were very interesting attempts by the writing team to address criticisms of the original game/endings.

Do not know how they'd hit as your first go without that context, however.

This is good info, thanks!

Also worth mentioning as I continue to put hours into SJR: the soundtrack is phenomenal. Especially the Hanz Zimmer-esque theme when aboard the shiptank.

It is an amazing soundtrack. Being my first Megaten gam, it also gave me a pretty inaccurate impression of the style of music I should expect. Just another way SJ still stands out to me, though, even after all these years and other Megaten games.

I think SU still has my favorite normal boss music in the franchise.

There's something about having one of your demons get walloped by a boss while that vaguely regal music plays really nails the vibe of you being, like, completely out of your league.

The normal battle also gives the vibe of a dramatic last stand against a horde of demons.
