Was DAT ever used for anything besides recording bootlegs? I'm pretty sure this is the only context I've ever heard it mentioned in.

At one of my workplaces we had a DAT SCSI drive for backing up servers. I think I know who still has that drive and all the tapes

Here's my current HIFI setup (sorry about the lovely image quality)

I still need to get a record player, however most of the players I want are silver/aluminium coloured

I think Technics makes a series of black record players, and afaik there's also a Thorens TD160 or 166 that is available in black.

Be VERY careful when buying a direct drive Technics like an SL-D2 or similar. They sound great, but they often show variations in speed that do not go away, not even when cleaning all the speed control potentiometers and switches. Listen through at least one full record side at the seller's place before buying.

I've still got my Yamaha turntable, along with the rest of the stack, but they are split up and in various boxes. Haven't played a record in years and it's not connected, but I'll get around to it one day.

Culture difference i guess. Hifi buffs over here are all too eager to show you their poo poo here and check out the thing you're buying. At least if it's 100 euro or more, which those SL-D[n]s are now.

For cheap stuff? Don't complain if it ain't perfect.

New technology actually being good: Weed dispensaries where you just roll up with cash and hand it to a 20 something latina and she gives you weed. You don't have know a guy who knows a guy and then have to chill with his stupid rear end for a half hour listening to Steely Dan.

I just downloaded Quake 2 Remastered on Xbox Game Pass and played Quake 2 online multiplayer for the first time since probably 2001.

It’s a tremendous remake in 4K, and has set off an extremely fun memory flashbang right in my face. It includes the original expansion packs as well as a new expansion pack (and Quake II 64!)

I'M PROGRAMMED TO LOVE THIS CHOCOLATY CAKE... MY CIRCUITS LIGHT UP FOR THAT FUDGY ICING.

I wondered what the "data" part of "data/video input" was supposed to be, and from this review it seems to refer to an "e-box" which is a receiver that does this:

quote:

The Electronics Box is the accessory that transforms the Flat TV from a monitor to a truly high performance television that is only 5 inches deep! The e-box adds amazing features like Dynamic Noise Reduction, Digital Crystal Clear, Active Control and Digital Natural Motion. These features can be found in all of our quality segment televisions and to see them on a flat monitor is truly a marvel of modern technology. The e-box also offers a dual tuner, split screen Picture-in-Picture and six separate wide screen modes, including auto-format.

Computer Video Supported: VGA, SVGA, XGA. Inputs: Mini D-sub 15 pin, 3.5mm Mini-jack, Coaxial Cable, CVBS, YC, S-video.
