I thought HR was Colton's wheelhouse? That's what is said in the "apology" video. Goons have latched on to this Yvonne being head of HR because it fits a certain narrative even though it hasn't been the case for quite a while.

It's not a defence of any kind, but if you're going to stroke over GN's quest for truth and ethics, at least pretend to follow it.

yeah terren has finally managed to get Linus to shut the gently caress up and run crisis comms through him. and has given the only possible response showing he's actually trying to be the adult in the room.

funny that it's two combined statements though. and funny Linus can't even talk about this poo poo without saying "not consistent with my recollections" right up front. But *clearly* not his unfiltered own words and an immediate extra piece from the CEO right after (I wouldn't be surprised if the comment came from terren with the Linus quote contained in his email).

Yeah that's what I was getting at - even biggest tech nerds go through a thought process of whether the thing makes practical sense and how to go best about it. Him yoloing the stuff with the camera crew in there for content makes sense if he lived alone, not with three little children having to deal with that nonsense. And even if he believed all that stuff would just work, it requires an IT guy to deal with poo poo in his house now.

Yeah, it's pretty clear Linus now needs Alex to handle all of the mechanical complexity of his house, and also Jake for the IT. Probably Dan for the AV too. So, three employees who probably have a non-insignificant amount of their time spent untangling the over-engineered, "house of the future" mess he's making worse by trying to rush projects to completion for content rather than specifically arrange the content to be "This Old House"-style planned chunks with clear successes and way points in mind. Again, more can't "see forest for the trees" issues.

Maybe the CEO and the outside investigator will right the ship on issues of that matter as well, but even they do, there's long term damage done, and any fixes that come out of this probably won't get the deserved gratitude the person with his name on the building.

I dunno which is worse. Yvonne "investigating" her own poo poo that happened under her watch.

Or whoever is currently in charge of HR "investigating" what happened under Yvonne's watch.

I'm sure Linus will make that person do a thorough and precise job.

  1. Linus reads dexerto article saying he hadn't commented
  2. Linus reaches out like a moron on twitter cos he hadn't seen the email cos obviously all media goes directly to him
  3. Terren bollocks him telling him a niche eSports publication doesn't get the first comment on this before he can email back
  4. The verge also reached out for comment while writing a piece
  5. Terren says this is what we're doing, I've written your comment here, email it to me so it comes from you
  6. Terren forwards the email to the verge for publication with his own comment added above

Agreed. Alex is perfect for all of the "Red Green but computers", YOLO engineering projects that are in the studio, and he seems to be fine when actually given a budget and time for custom builds (that $100,000 minecraft PC for example.) That he's being leveraged for the pool water PC heat exchange cooling (itself a prime example of over-reach for the views ruining day to day life) isn't something anyone should do, let alone under pressure to get a good ending for a video, fast. Looping back to Red Green - yeah, it's funny to make a dodge into a dishwasher with duct tape, but you wouldn't want to live with it.

I find that I tune out of a lot of youtube channels when it becomes a wealthy guy showing off stuff he got (often for free because of subscriber count). I think the last LTT video I watched was one where they were given some high core count Xeon CPUs from Intel just to gently caress around with. They didn't have the proper coolers for mounting pressure and they weren't going to arrive until the next day so Linus decided he couldn't wait and tried to boot this multi-thousand dollar system with a thousand dollar tungsten cube (they cost more now afaik) on the Xeon to see if it would provide enough clamping pressure. It didn't, but IIRC it didn't damage anything, just wouldn't let him boot it right away.

Obviously the PC tech YouTube space has its weird lingering beef with the Verge after that disastrous PC build video from years ago, but their editorial staff is otherwise rock solid, and I think Alex Cranz is an excellent journalist, so I'm glad this reporting is coming from her. It does a good job of explaining the narrative to a broader audience.
