https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mo2LTcXgkXk I altered a “shorts” address. It looks like it’s working like a regular YouTube link on my phone. Let me know if that isn’t the case. Bored has a new favorite as of 23:22 on Aug 16, 2023 |

No pictures because spiders, but about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that there was an adult daddy long legs living under a corner of my bedroom fireplace, and it was carefully guarding a couple of dozen tiny wee babies. They all stayed together for at least 10 days until a day or two ago, when the babies all had their first moult. Now the parent has moved off to another part of the room, and the babies have headed off to find their own spaces. I had no idea that daddy long legses took care of their offspring like that

My dog is not very smart. Sound absolutely on for this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ljVcVeIgJI She really likes doing this while my wife is in meetings for work, she'll do this for 5 minute stretches sometimes, but it's so funny we just deal with it. Edit VV: You're awesome, thanks for the help AFewBricksShy has a new favorite as of 17:13 on Aug 17, 2023 |

Nvm. Googled it and that is a cellar spider thing. Very cute, imo. Cellar spiders are the best spider bros. Just take up places you or your pets are unlikely to bump into them and eat bugs. Bored posted:Harvestman or cellar spider daddy long legs? (I didn’t know that either of them guarded offspring either) I think it was the cellar spider type - there was definitely some kind of web, and I believe harvestmen (harvestmans?) don't build webs at all. Yeah I was very surprised too - at first I thought it was preying on them, but no, all the little ones were left unharmed by the adult for the whole time, they all just sat together.

Icon Of Sin posted:My job is keeping an eye on turtle nests, and excavating them once we think they’re done hatching. We get a few stragglers every now and again that are left behind after everyone else left, but that just means I get to release them later that day That is so cool!! It must feel so good seeing those li’l guys get out to the water 🥹. What sort of turtles are they? Do you track them or anything like that? May I ask why nests are excavated once they’re done hatching, if it’s not too complicated to get in to? (Having troubles posting images… Does anyone know if the Awful iOS app no longer support posting images directly from your phone library?)

I think the assisted excavation is so as few as possible of the little fellas get trapped underground, in case their mom buried them a bit too deep. If the turtles had a healthy population, it would just be sad, but not terrible, and just part of what happened, but since there's already a turtle shortage, making sure as few as possible get lost to preventable accidents like that is important.

That makes sense! So excavating nest may save some of the stragglers or late hatchers. Flipperwaldt posted:Yeah that got removed in May. If you want to read about why, start here. It's controversial, arguably didn't solve anything. I'm not familiar with iOS or the workarounds that eventually get posted in that thread. However this website should work in any browser, if you don't care about the whole issue of uploaded images possibly, eventually, maybe disappearing after some time. Thank you for this explanation and link! Here is a cute reptile (gold dust day gecko) I was lucky enough to get monarchs on the milkweed this year. I moved a few chrysalises and the last caterpillar into a mesh cage. It’s been really interesting to watch them. Last caterpillar doing its J-formation The skin left after forming the chrysalis
