No pictures because spiders, but about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that there was an adult daddy long legs living under a corner of my bedroom fireplace, and it was carefully guarding a couple of dozen tiny wee babies.
They all stayed together for at least 10 days until a day or two ago, when the babies all had their first moult.
Now the parent has moved off to another part of the room, and the babies have headed off to find their own spaces.
I had no idea that daddy long legses took care of their offspring like that :3:

Nvm. Googled it and that is a cellar spider thing. Very cute, imo. Cellar spiders are the best spider bros. Just take up places you or your pets are unlikely to bump into them and eat bugs.

I think it was the cellar spider type - there was definitely some kind of web, and I believe harvestmen (harvestmans?) don't build webs at all. Yeah I was very surprised too - at first I thought it was preying on them, but no, all the little ones were left unharmed by the adult for the whole time, they all just sat together.

I think the assisted excavation is so as few as possible of the little fellas get trapped underground, in case their mom buried them a bit too deep. If the turtles had a healthy population, it would just be sad, but not terrible, and just part of what happened, but since there's already a turtle shortage, making sure as few as possible get lost to preventable accidents like that is important.

Yeah that got removed in May. If you want to read about why, start here. It's controversial, arguably didn't solve anything. I'm not familiar with iOS or the workarounds that eventually get posted in that thread. However this website should work in any browser, if you don't care about the whole issue of uploaded images possibly, eventually, maybe disappearing after some time.

That makes sense! So excavating nest may save some of the stragglers or late hatchers.

Here is a cute reptile (gold dust day gecko)

I was lucky enough to get monarchs on the milkweed this year. I moved a few chrysalises and the last caterpillar into a mesh cage. It�s been really interesting to watch them.
