Noah Gundersen heading out on tour! I assume that this is coinciding with a new album....but there's little info out on an entire LP outside of a few (very) recent songs released.

Oh nice. He's coming in September. He's one of those "discovered through KEXP" acts for me.

Heard him through an improv comedy podcast (improv4humans) years back and was intrigued. A musical style that sits on the outskirts of my wheelhouse.....but nontheless.....he's incredibly talented and has some really fantastic songs. I'm genuinely surprised that he's not more well known. I think the (amazing) song Atlantis with Phoebe Bridgers probably brought some new ears though.

Yeah, I happen to be listening to it right now, and it's a pretty great album. Always a relief to know that artists can still release great music 20 years into their career.

That said, this has been a pretty weak year for music. There hasn't been a lot to come out that has really impressed me. It seemed like everybody waited until it looked like the pandemic was ending and released albums they had been sitting on in 2022 so that they could tour, but very few people had anything lined up for 2023.

Carly shook her glass, willing the ice to melt. "You still haven't told me what the mission is."

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

Saw the Hold Steady over the weekend for the first time in like 17 years, when they were still small enough to play colleges. My first impression was to think "wow, these guys look like a bunch of dads now" but then I went to look up some old band photos of theirs and they've always been kinda dadly looking. Great show though!

I think there's been a lot of great stuff but July was pretty barren. Might just be recency bias there. Obviously depends on what you're into, but I've enjoyed the records by (checks playlist) Paramore, Gorillaz, Caroline Polachek, US Girls, Lana Del Rey, Depeche Mode, Altin Gün, KGLW, QOTSA, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Foo Fighters, Lemon Twigs. Still undecided on Little Dragon and Yves Tumor. Some people also liked 100gecs, boygenius, and Janelle Monáe, though I was ambivalent. I think it's shaping up to be a pretty solid year overall.

Agreed, for me personally it was really slow until around April but it’s been real good since. Other than Feist some of my favorites have been Tennis, Shame, M83, Depeche Mode, Avalon Emerson, Fever Ray, Sigur Ròs, Daughter, PJ Harvey, and Arlo Parks.

This year, I've really dug: caroline polachek, boygenius, the national, hold steady, new pornographers, carly rae jepsen, pj harvey, joanna sternberg , bell witch and wednesday. Still have Slowdive, blonde redhead, and mitski to look forward to.

I also haven't gotten around to feist or yo la tengo yet which I've heard good things about.

Pretty solid year for me, though a little weak on hip-hop. But I'm pretty out of touch on hip hop. I think tyler the creator, and young thug have new records out this year, and lil yachty did a prog album, but have yet to listen to any of them
