It's only the Final Battle once all the players are ready.

ShB is wildly overhyped and I would likely have enjoyed it more if people didn't act like it was god's gift to writing

Also if you hate arr this much just buy a skip or start skipping cutscenes, you clearly aren't going to be getting any of the important establishing info out of the story or gameplay anyway if you hate it that much.

the thing about ff14 is that it's a real slow burn and a lot of us have had the benefit of seeing it unfold over however many years. people love hoary boulder now because he's always there in the background and you could see his personal life slowly moving onwards if you go back and check up on him every few months after a new patch. the twins, if it weren't a game with a self-insert, would be the main characters of the story and their development is one of the central continuing plots of the whole drat game

lmfao also, this isn't an exaggeration, this is like the 5th time I've had to visit the leaders of each major city for... what exactly? Can I not just simply have one of these loving kids do it? A letter? Perhaps the linkshell I have in my ear?

It is not hostility, it is the idle busy work of a game trying to pad out time by any means necessary and quite the turn off for a new player

It's a good perspective. Close to my own. I might've dropped ARR if I didn't like fighting the Empire so much. I thought the Ascians were some real Asscians, a discount Organization 13.

Nobody should be trying to change your mind. The writing picks up as you move across expacs. That's all. Will it be your jam? Hopefully. All you can do is endure until you get a really big prompt that it's Time To Go To Heavensward Now. Hang in there.

fwiw the twins are young but I've always had the impression that the game wants you to think of them as your peers in all of this. it's going to be colored a bit by how old you personally are and how old you consider your WoL, of course, but "why do I care about these children" is the wrong position to sit on imo

My peers are not 10 year olds, and its hard to think of them as such.

Alisae is fun.

And yeah, a lot of your complaints are valid. Picked up 14 last year, had stopped playing ARR right outside the "final boss" of Gaius or whatever and grinded up the MSQ from there. ARR and post ARR are dire. Honestly, took a while for Heavensward to click for me. Stormblood was very up and down, and Shadowbringers was the closest it's come to just a good time from start to finish.

All that to say: when it isn't hitting, it really whiffs hard. I don't think any reaction you've had yet has been off, really.

Also, speaking of quiet moments in this game. Do you want to know what my idea of a nice quiet moment is in between this? Sitting on a bench in Gridania with my RP tag on and using my /read emote, having someone come up and sit down next to me, ask me what I'm reading, and then copying and pasting the first few paragraphs from infinite jest at them. That is a good quiet moment. This game has an incredible RP and social scene and so far, its the saving grace.

i would probably care about them more if alphinaud was not the smuggest most insufferable poo poo for most of the early game and alisae is just nonexistent until you do coils of bahamut. the latter does get to be enjoyable to be around when she can be bothered to join the main cast but the former will forever sit in the position of 'can gently caress off forever' or failing that 'can be the party whipping boy/punching bag'

Like maybe this doesn't mean much to people who play this as a single player game, but I have 15 people on my friends list all met through the game, not from the forums or discord or whatever, just genuinely interacted with them in my typical goofy role play style who added me, and we have fun going to bars, clubs, playing poker or black jack, or just sitting around being annoying RPers in a big city, like when I told someone to stop cutting down trees because I could hear them scream and they got really upset. That is what I play for, and the story being as dire as it is so far to simply move along and as you say, needed to pay attention to so later parts may make sense, has been the biggest gripe I continue to have. I'm running around talking to 5 jackasses who don't wanna join Aliphaunds stupid new company in each city because... no one else can do this? lol. It is FINE to have a story like this in a game, it isn't fine to wrap what could be an interesting story around MMO fetch quests (at least to this level). It speaks loving VOLUMES the most interesting, fun, and best questing experience I've had is the Crystal Tower, which I found interesting from a lore perspective... and loving Hildebrand, which I powered through all those quests over a few days. That was fantastic compared to the rest

I still don't understand why you wouldn't just get a skip if you hate ARR this much. You've clearly hated it long before this point, so all you've been doing is inflicting something you hate on yourself to unlock new areas.

You'd be confused when you hit HW, yes, but I don't think you're actually paying attention to anything because of how much you hate it so I don't think it would make much of a difference.

E: I would ultimately agree with the person calling you a child, is what I'm saying

I think some of you are reading extra malice into TLDs posts. I felt the same frustration but followed the story.

Yeah the RP scene rules.

A guy at the fight club venue I go to weekly beat me up dressed as a Chocobo Power Ranger. I asked for a rematch and time to coordinate some antics. The fights are first to three hits so I made a Doronjo costume and recruited two mooks in goon suits to be my first two hit points. We entered like Team Rocket after throwing nets over the announcer and calling him out in his Clark Kent persona. All of us killed it. :3:

Usually I fight as the single dumbest Conjurer in the world so if they announce Geomancer at the next fanfest I'm gonna faint.

Seeing your gambling stories makes me want to actually commit to my event hosting ideas based off Kaiji Ultimate Gambler. See if some folks are up for winning big gil but accepting permanent in character wounds if they lose.

This gives me a good feeling about how you'll feel about the future content. Something to remember is that FF14 vets love hearing how sprouts go through the game. The shared experience gives them spiritual energy.

1) I'm not loving PAYING MONEY to skip a required story, and the fact that is even offered says something lol
2) I'm already somewhat close to the end of it (????) so why would I spend money now to do so? I thought after fighting Gaius or whoever, and seeing credits, I would be on my merry way to a new area. Nope, I'm asking people to help me join a NEW grand company, a much better one, for.... (???) reasons lol

it's the new player thread so nobody is going to post direct spoilers but you are rapidly approaching some of the story points that do have significant effects on the rest of the game, so just try to take the reassurances to keep an open mind instead of just rushing through so you can erp in slightly different surroundings or w/e

The skip exists primarily for people playing alts or people who don't give a poo poo about the story. There's skips for everything up to the latest expansion, it says nothing about the quality.

There’s a lot of baggage in terms of how the game was patched post-arr. There were actually more quests during that period that were cut, but it’s still a struggle. My personal journey having started playing when Endwalker was about to come out was that I really struggled through the pre HW patches and almost quit because the story was extremely generic, the characters were grating and the quests were boring. I struggled on because of what I heard of the later expansions and I’m glad I did, personally. ShB especially really resonated with me, and made me appreciate how the scions had developed.
