meanwhile in canada, parts of west kelowna (pop 36k) are on fire and there is confirmed structural damage. ~2500 people have been evacuated so far. also apparently the fires have jumped the lake north of kelowna (pop ~140k) so they've declared a state of emergency there too. the metro area has a population of ~220k hosed up. i love that part of the country and i used to visit there a lot when i lived in bc.
