Google has said they don't give a poo poo if a person or an AI writes content and that the algorithm won't penalize AI content. It's fundamentally not different from the current SEO bullshit that's been clogging up the internet for 10 years now. Instead of underpaid overseas English speakers writing content they know nothing about, it's now AI writing content it knows nothing about. AI can just do it a lot faster and cheaper.

It's basically that no one is writing in good faith if there's any money to be made, and through ads, there's money everywhere. So except forums (Reddit basically nowadays), there's no one writing stuff just to share information, it has to either sell a product or get traffic. I know my company spent a lot of effort on SEO and close to zero on actually telling what we do or showcasing our products. Which is not working, but providing content sure as hell isn't gonna sell our superior products either. Blockade posted:whats stopping someone from using it as a low pass filter? ie. create ai slop until this thing doesnt think its ai generated That's a flaw I'm sure no one has considered this, especially the guys developing the AI that is proprietary and can be licensed to both search providers and content generators.

Also they got rid of plus in particular a long time ago (because obviously the better use for that would be to indicate usernames for Google+, the social network everyone will use forever)

My high-school-attending kid already knows that you can’t just trust Google results and had part of one of their classes about verifying sources, so we’ll see how that goes.

Learned the hard way worker's comp is about getting me back to work ASAP, even if that means I work one-handed (I was seriously sent back to work to only use my right hand, still waiting for surgery on my left arm). I saw this at work, where you can practically see "accidents" scratched out for this tepid poo poo. I haven't bothered doing the math on whether I fell this many days ago.

Google is good at giving you popular results for popular queries. If you are trying to find something that is similar to but still different from a popular thing, it will do its absolute damnedest to direct you to that instead of what you're actually looking for. I've also noticed that when I use google on my phone instead of my desktop, it pushes me much more towards businesses and products. Paladinus posted:Oh, that's not new, I think. It's been like that for years now. Those are not AI-generated, just plain generated. There is no difference here.

I was just recently checking if I missed anything in Act 1 of BG3, and didn't see a single AI-generated result. I've also asked some computer toucher friends who use google a lot for work about the apparent onslaught of AI-generated results, and nobody knew what I was talking about. Maybe google are doing some A-B testing or something. Every time I google something I know scroll down to see the entire first page to makes sure I'm not going mad. Googling (and even duckduckgoing) 'google too many ai generated search results', what I get is news articles from last year about how google apparently downranks some but not all AI-generated search results. When I search on reddit, people mostly complain about that new AI-driven widget or other unrelated quirks of the engine. Like some dude googled 'get rid of state supremacy law' and was surprised he didn't get any relevant results? But there were some good examples, like someone googling 'movie about an Asian woman trying to become an actress' and that does mostly return stuff about Michelle Yeoh and Everything Everywhere All at Once, so I guess maybe they do prioritise recency over how much it matches the query nowadays. On the other hand, the redditor actually complained that their results didn't include either the word 'Asian' or 'actress', so I don't know what's up with that. The movie is Double Happiness, by the way, which I easily found out by slightly changing the query. Paladinus has issued a correction as of 17:09 on Aug 19, 2023 |

Just about everything on these lovely list/summary/"news" pseudo-blog websites that are carbon copies of each other is passed through an LLM at some point. They just crawl each other, or other websites, or reddit, and have an LLM puke out an article about it. Zleague.gg gained some recent notoriety for this after being trolled into writing an article about "the return of glorbo" in WoW, among other things.
