I've got really bad dysthymia, and while it makes me feel grumpy drat near all the time, its absolutely a choice on whether I want to be a grumpy fucker to people I deal with or not. Extremely frustrating when people try to use these things as excuses.

Apologies for my first post, I didn't take the time to properly word things in a way that would convey what I mean: ADHD is certainly not the main or sole reason someone is an rear end in a top hat. However, it is very much possible that the toxic work climate and practices at a company being owned and run by someone suffering from it (and likely other comorbidities) are at least in part attributable to or influenced by it. Eg: Not everyone with ADHD necessarily suffers from overwhelming emotional disregulation or Rejection Sensitivity and these issues are often still overlooked or not adequately treated by therapists. Yet if your boss or owner of the company suffers from it, then it can definitely have an impact on the employees. And doubly so if there's a well meaning but enabling support structure in place for that person. I suffer from severe ADHD myself and was only diagnosed in my late 20s (crashing out during my psych masters degree program) and it took quite some time and effort to find the right pharmaceutical treatment plan. I don't want to downplay or excuse his behavior by partially attributing it to ADHD. He is definitely high functioning and privileged enough to be able to seek professional help and treatment. ADHD is pretty strongly associated with aggression/stress management problems, emotional regulation issues, panic attacks (that can often manifest as aggression in men/boys), and the hyperactivity side of things is even comorbid with poo poo like mania and hypomania. Much of it is the downstream effects of growing up in society with undiagnosed/untreated ADHD but at least some of it seems to be endemic to the condition itself. A LOT of adult ADHD gets misdiagnosed as Bipolar Type 2, for example.

Hands up for that duo. Anyways, it's not really relevant because internet youtube diagnosis is not the way to go about it. Even if either is the case, it isn't an excuse for bad behaviour. The only folks I'd excuse are those experiencing their first mania or emerging from a sheltered environment into a space where their symptoms first become evidently harmful. There's usually a period in the late teens and early 20's when folks suddenly discover that something ain't right and that can be messy. nerds in stem using adhd/autism as an excuse for objectively terrible workplace behaviour is the oldest thing in the book, it's a shame it still happens. sucks that bad behaviour is excused, and sucks that people with certain conditions are thrown under the bus just so that certain people don't face consequences and are forced to change their attitudes

Yeah fwiw I don't know if Linus is diagnosed anything, I just think everyone could benefit from therapy (and medication as needed). Hell, if Linus was willing to do the introspection and work with a good therapist he might find empathy within himself, and learn to become a boss who wouldn't ignore and enable employee abuse...

What was their original monetization strategy for the LTT Labs data? Were they going to paywall it, or was it meant to be a free service propped up by YT and merch sales? In either case, I think they're seriously boned - there's no way they didn't hinge either result on some "expected future growth" metric that's now way off course.

I haven't watched a ton of videos from other tech YouTubers on this, but the ones I have watched all tended to pretty much be firmly on Steve's side. I haven't seen any that covered the allegations by Madison negatively, though you do get varying levels of "these are just allegations, nothing's been proven conclusively yet". That said, a few have commented "there have been rumblings about the work environment at LTT for a while now" and a couple said things along the same lines as Paul, about how the person who acted the way Madison described is a piece of poo poo and should be fired.
