The Venn Diagram of people who would describe themselves as 'Alt History fans' and people who have zero nuanced understanding of history is just a circle, and that circle inevitably has some kind of stupid racist world map drawn on it.

But only writing one in... for some reason (unless it just got cut off?). I guess they just want you to count the other one in your head. It does actually seem to add up, but um yeah. There must of been a better way to do that.

so ok there's the scale for Renminbi on the right but is it not still true that the dollar has slipped from 70+% in 2000 to less than 60% now? It seems like there's not actually much lying going on here just people think they're being tricked by the separate scale on the right? Or i'm missing something not obvious to me.

They're on a completely different scale, the one on the left has steps of 5 while the one on right steps of 1.

Or i'm missing something not obvious to me. the numbers are technically correct, but it's lying because the graph is constructed to make the comparison between the two values look different than it actually is. the obvious editorial bent here is "oh no, china is catching up to the usa!!!!" and it's meant to make you think china's almost there right now!! look at how close the lines are to crossing! but the scale for RMB is 1/5 what it is for USD, and the graphs don't start at the same location either. here is a more accurate comparison:

I don't think you're going to fix it short of a stacked line graph with all substantial currencies in reserve otherwise you're left with focus in the insipid point that $ down renminbi up. Even with the doctoring the biggest conclusion you can make is $ down renminbi up leading me to think this is a graph that could have been a table if you care to make this point at all because trying to type set the accurate graph is a task of "graphical design is my passion" magnitudes but the doctored graph will be snickered at by nerds.

The Rmb gain is only 1/4 the USD drop so something or things makes up the rest and isn’t mentioned on the graph

It calls out the different y axis right there in the legend so I don't think it's that misleading. I'm more bothered by the x axis.
