you open a web site on an out-of-the-box macbook (the most turnkey normal person computer there is) and the height of the bread text is the width of your thumbprint i am sure this is some "best practice" and there is a good reason for it what is that? matti fucked around with this message at 16:59 on Aug 23, 2023 |

like, my theory is people insisting on using Windows with way too low scaling but developing websites as if they did not

i will use this opportunity to once again complain about the awful app using two different font sizes for normal text, with quoted text smaller than normal, meaning that normal text is oversized if you set sizes to make everything comfortably readable.

remember when browsers gave you the option to choose your default fonts and colors?

you can still do that and it _kind of_ still works if you have a fairly high tolerance for broken website layouts

the fault isn't that people think phone browsing is better, it's that responsive web design is tricky and time consuming and the state of the industry means you only get enough design and dev resources to make it barely readable on mobile chrome/safari and then it's back to making more elements that pop over the screen to nag users to do stuffJonny 290 posted:ah time to tuck in on the couch for a little bit of "me time" and browsing my favorite web sights <gets rsi repeatedly scrolling on a 6" phone> this is living!

just make it work on desktop and then let the popups overwhelm the mobile version like normal. nobody will ever know the difference

also many times the design is just bad on purpose ex: youtube
