ive got an ogryn power maul with confident strike and uhhh brutal momentum 4 and its pretty good but idk which combo kills guys the fastest. it feels like i have to beat on ragers for 95 years. another thing i dont really understand with power weapons is exactly what their power field does and which attack to use it with. they seem to vary between weapons but not actually tell you how anywhere.

i love my ogryn but i have a pretty limited diet of weapons with him which makes it quite samey sometimes. i wish the kickback felt worthwhile to use instead of just like a much less convenient rippergun.

And then promptly did it again to the next daemonhost that spawned 50 feet away.

Malice health pools are much lower for monsters, so they probably used a Thrust/Headtaker THammer and an ult charge. When Thrust was bugged to be way better than it should be you could do it to Damnation daemonhosts as well.

double posting for Ogryn chat: look at the Power Maul stats and attack breakdowns, it's actually somewhat unique in that you can see the damage values of the special attacks! It's better to light special attack crushers as it does the same damage as a heavy attack and you do an overhead strike making hitting the head easier. Powered strikes are how you should be killing elites in general with Power Maul, regular light and heavy attacks is good for chaff. You can also use powered strikes to CC a mixed horde while also killing an elite.

As for ranged options- there's a reason I said Ogryn only has one ranged weapon option in my big post in response weapon suggestions. It's because there's only one two ranged weapon options that are actually effective and only one of those is effective at all ranges. The Gorgonum Stubber and the Rippers are pretty much the only viable choices imo, with Ripper guns only coming into their own after the massive buffs to their can opening prowess.

The Kickback, GG, and Rumbler are all funny as gently caress and just don't have the damage output to keep up and be effective imo. The two viable options do their jobs but way, way more efficiently and it kinda sucks. This is obviously opinion and maybe there's some Ogryn player out there owning with them but I highly doubt it.

Are hordes made of Groaners or Poxwalkers? Or a mixture of both? I can't decide if I want bonus damage vs Infested or bonus damage vs Unarmored on this thing.

Poxwalkers are the obviously mutated ones with weird horns that bleed yellow junk and do corruption chip damage. Groaners are the standard zombie-looking ones.

Hordes are typically one or the other, I'm honestly not sure if I've ever seen a mixed horde. That said you don't want either of those, you want +Flak damage so you lower the amount you need to deal to scab shooters and the various flak bruisers and elites.

I find the flak armored scabs or unarmored dregs to be the nastier of the regular chaff, but I think they can only show up as idle units around the map, poxwalkers are the only threatening chaff that makes up regular hordes, groaners should be 1 shot by about everything.

Probably Blaze Away. It can stack up a huge +power bonus, and while max stacks isn't common even 1-2 stacks is quite helpful.

consider swapping +specialist damage for +flak. It makes a big difference vs the scab faction and anything else with flak armor.

Deathspitter's niche is actually mixed horde killing as you need some trash mobs around to kill to keep it going, but being able to flick to some Ragers or Maulers real fast to burn them down with all that extra power is really nice. On top of that the Gorgonum is unique in that its "near" range is 22m which is really, really far. You'll be surprised at how far away something can be and still give you stacks when you kill it.

That said from my use of it I hope they buff Deathspitter as 1.75 seconds is a very awkward timing to try and keep stacks up and it's practically useless vs monstrosities. Blaze Away is probably better in a wider variety of circumstances, and might actually outweigh the benefit that is given by rolling for +flak damage.

It's a shame that enemies killed outright by the special attack don't proc Blazing Spirit. It 'd be fun to slash into a horde and watch the fire spread with WIldfire.

ikr? If they ever fix that it'd be legit amazing I think, as is if you can get at least 5 going you can just the spread to help chop through the rest of the horde as it softens up. Still feels very usable, and the burn is way better with t4 blaze. Gonna be using it on my Gunyker.

Hey, so, with regards to refining curio upgrades/perks, I noticed that there's one for "+1 stamina"... except it's +1 stamina at all levels - but the higher levels still cost a mint! Does it REALLY have the same effect with all levels (presumably a bug if so), or am I missing something?

I don't know what's top notch these days exactly but I do know you don't need +1 wound for Ogryn. Extra wounds are a crutch, you really just need to not go down in the first place as people going down snowballs into a wipe fast. I had been running all max health plus sniper and gunner damage resistances (2 of each), now I'm running one toughness and toughness regen and only 2 instead of 3 max health setups.

Major Isoor
Mar 23, 2011
Yeah, I was meaning to replace the wound one - I bought it as I wasn't sure if it was adding another health bar lr simply splitting up my existing HP further. (The latter, alas) But yeah, toughness regen is one I was thinking about. How much does the +1 toughness give you though, actually? The +1 toughness and +1 stamina are the ones that confuse me... like, how many points do you have by default? 10?

Uh... the Toughness curios give minimum +14% toughness though? And the secondary perk ranges from +3% to +5%.

Anyway it works like health, the % bonus modifies the base amount you have. Veteran benefits the most from + toughness, Ogryn and Zealot benefit the least. Increasing your max toughness is still generally good as most classes have a max% toughness regen feat so you get more value out f it.

If I wasn't so comfy with an extra wound on Vet and Psyker they'd each get a toughness curio in their place. Ogryn benefits the most from all +health curios imo.

Major Isoor
Mar 23, 2011
Ahh yeah, my bad - I just double-checked and it's only the "+1 stamina" that isn't a percentage - I must've dreamed the toughness one!

And yeah, that makes sense. I'll just keep jamming as much +HP onto my curios as possible. I've recently switched from the power maul to shield+maul (I'm missing the electric charge though, that's for sure) so ranged attacks from snipers etc aren't such a big deal right now, but I'll keep those damage reductions in mind!

Evil Kit

After the buffs the slab shield is great! Try out the bleed build with it.

Just keep in mind that using the special attack shield plant is very niche and actively harmful to use if you aren't eating an entire shooter gallery's worth of aggro or tanking a daemonhost

Also sniper shots penetrate you so you can't protect your friends from them even if you don't take damage.

While the veteran has higher base toughness and ogyn/zealot higher health to make those percentiles work harder, they all start with high enough tough and health that you will find it far better to shore up the lower stat with at least 1-2 curios or a lot of minor +5%'s.

Here's one guy giving some data from watching what everyone ran for curio's for 700 games
https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/14iynw5/curio_data_from_700_public_high_intensity/

Tldr: you really want toughness on zealot because you can easily refill their toughness with their ult and being in melee, veteran has so much toughness you might as well get 1-2+ health curio's to avoid dying to corruption or a flame touching you, Ogyn has so much health that you might as well try to avoid taking health damage in the first place with more toughness since gunners are your biggest weakness for the big guy anyway and a extra wound on psyker works as well as everything else because they tend to spontaneously combust from time to time.

Extra health is also a big benefit if you run grimoires or run into a lot of corruption regularly.
