Is this how 12 year olds (who are otherwise cosplaying as a little Republican) decorate their backpacks typically? https://twitter.com/Chesschick01/status/1696531277615407389?t=OO71RcWMdZy9mL47lKsSVQ&s=19 Leon Trotsky 2012 posted:Seems pretty obvious it was a "parent tries to victimize themselves by pretending it was all their kid's idea" and the school overreacted. Well obviously he got the idea from the Tuttle Twins books, according to the author who posted about this incident initially.

Dumb school. Probably dumb kid, but he's 12, he's allowed to have dumb opinions. I kinda like the gadsen flag's original implication of "this snake is just mindin' his own business, but he'll bite you if you step on him [or otherwise try to screw around with him]", but I feel like the people who use the flag try to use it to have more of an aggressive meaning. They served time for state crimes and not federal. Nobody actually cleared them and their kid said they told him to hide in the attic. quote:They argue that they pleaded guilty only to avoid a worse punishment. But the school ended up backing down so look forward to having tons of middle schoolers with Gadsten flag patches now. Not surprising how idiotic people are in the replies. Someone points out the hypocrisy of people who think a 12 year old is too young to know they are queer yet TOTALLY KNOWS everything about the Gadsten flag. This flips over to "actually we should ban pride flags because they represent child mutilation and sterilization with tons of people agreeing. So when a kid says" Don't tread on me"this is them simply being a very smart and curious child learning about American history. But when a kid says "I go by they/them" that child is being groomed by evil government agents that want to depopulate the country"

SlothfulCobra posted:While libertarians are bad, there is a vast gulf between the libertarian party and nazis. i agree the two are different but i feel like saying more. fascism is a strategy for fighting working class power via an alliance of regressive working and middle class people funded by the truly rich, mainly through violence and the suspension (dejure or defacto) of the liberal laws and institutions which permit the growth of that power (or at least limit attempts to strangle it even further). it's the hatchet behind emergency glass in every industrialized liberal country. but in each country and era it is used, while the axe may swing the same way, the people swinging it may use different excuses and justification for those swings. that is, the participants in the fascist movement grab whichever cockamamie "ideas" and "theories" give them any kind of appeal in the target groups of their society. nationalism AND socialism? sure!! it's like one of those crabs that glues bits of whatever it can find in its environment to its shell: each blenda in with the plants they live near, looking totally different from each other but underneath they're still the same drat crab. (respect to umberto eco and his insight into italian and german fascist "interwar" movements, but there isn't a single set of ideas which typify all historical and existing fascist movements and certainly not all possible ones. (and actually he might even say that in Ur-Fascism, its been too long since my last re-read of it, love that guy)) so, just speaking as a random american, i see both libertarian and white supremacist ideas grabbed by different fronts of our fascist movements. i guess that's mainly what i wanted to say. e: oh, and then of course you throw in the economic and ideological structures of settler colonialism and the venn diagram really starts to look like a circle Doc Hawkins fucked around with this message at 18:38 on Aug 30, 2023 |

Jaiden Rodriguez, a seventh grader at The Vanguard School was removed from class, according to his mom, after administrators said several patches on his backpack were in violation of the school’s dress code policy. So this wasn't just about the gadsden patch, but a bunch of gun and alcohol patches too. Also Polis is a loving coward.

Some school dress codes have a thing against camo, but they don't seem to be complaining about that. But also gently caress charter schools as well as gently caress libertarians.

This is the most Libertarian interpretation of a change in policy you could possibly have. Fire prevention policies are good because it teaches people to be less reliant on government to put fires out. In the comments they also argue 80% of fire departments are staffed by volunteers (really? ) which helps to sidestep the notion of "government service funded by taxes=good and effective solution" https://twitter.com/beinlibertarian/status/1697655699214348760?t=xEen0tcgPL0PsVXCLGMk4Q&s=19

Fire departments are actually a sign of massive public waste. We need about half the firemen we have now, but you can't fire "heros". Ninety percent of the work they do is following ambulances and blocking traffic for cops, neither of which need trained professionals and incredibly expensive vehicles. Both of those jobs are "make work" required by local governments to keep firemen from sitting on their asses all day

I'm also curious about how many fire prevention regulations were also passed since the late seventies since that would also likely have an impact on the number of fires happening as well. Things like regulations in manufacturing materials, building codes, etc. You know, the stuff libertarians hate that the government mandates for their businesses.

But what if I want a ceiling fan that throws sparks constantly Brandon? And what about the poor? If manufacturers aren't allowed to make ceiling fans that catch fire then poor people might not be able to afford a ceiling fan at all! You don't care about the poor! (Ban welfare.) Also you'll never take away my god given right to fill my house with natural gas because I forgot to check the oven.
