Yeah.

Basically the way it works is that every character now has a set of 'hp'. You're given the choice between a variety of different options that 'reduce' that HP, ranked from green to red. Green do the least damage but have the highest chance of success, red are vice-versa. You have 3 'turns' to defeat the enemy but if you succeed on your third turn then you can keep going until you fail. Most of the time these are basically random lines of dialogue but occasionally you can get special auto-win ones from other events/logs/etc. You also can fill up a bar that lets you auto-win one persuasion that you can hold on to.

wtf they stole the conversation system from highfleet????

Keep in mind ranking up skills requires you to complete a side objective or quest for each rank apparently. Can't just hoard points and drop it all in at once

Bethesda owns and publishes modern DOOM, Wolfenstein, and Deathloop. They have enough shooter development experience by now to know at least the basics of good fps shootin’

Nah, just generally tired of people who can't tell jokes telling bad jokes in games, more of a general problem with the way they're written than anything specific, but sex jokes are just especially bad because like the majority of them boil down to "LOL THESE PEOPLE ARE DOING WEIRD SEX poo poo ISNT THAT FUNNY"

E: Also like the weird rear end self-aware pandering in poo poo like Atomic Heart where they deliberately try to play up the horny for marketing points.

So for story-maxxing, the perks are probably what… the one that gives you a family? And the adoring fan? And I wonder what else gives you more quests, maybe the Dream home one?

I’m gonna play this once, no NG+ for me. It’s (hopefully) one good story and done, and going to be a talky guy

ImpAtom posted:

I know they’re different teams, but it would seem silly not to share some knowledge or team members for certain design blocks of the game? I dunno how they handle it, but if you own Doom, it would make sense to recruit some dudes from that team.

Just sayin, when you see Bethesda, the brand doesn’t just mean “big RPG with mediocre combat” anymore, it also means Doom/wolfenstein

The one that gives you a family, Kid Stuff, is getting lots of praise in reviews I've read. Apparently, your parents have a lot of dialog, and can show up in surprising places.

I don't know if the Adoring Fan is as in-depth. Sounds like he might be best for doing hard labor on a distant moon.

I personally plan on Kid Stuff, a faction origin, and a religion origin.

Yungblood was fine, flawed, but lots of good stuff and an interesting jump in the story. I had to turn down the difficulty because some enemies were just extreme bullet sponges, but it was a fine game.

Deathloop seems good but I dropped it, will play later, and Fallout 76 was absolutely borked at release so that’s understandable(I hear they fixed it by now, somewhat). Redfall, yikes

So I will say I don't agree with this particular bit.

For me the thing that I disliked most about Starfield was the way the exploration is handled. In Skyrim or Fallout I can go "Oh, neat, I want to go over that way" and maybe I'd find something. In Starfield it is "Okay, I am going to click on this planet. Okay, the only interesting things on the planet are marked already 99% of the time. I click on one, land right next to it, do it and travel away. There is no reason whatsoever to go outside of this area unless the plot specifically tells me to."

I think that is going to be what is make or break for most people.

First, thanks for your writeup and posts, ImpAtom.

And this post in particular seems pretty insightful. I'd say half the appeal of Bethesda games is this kind of exploration, so it's pretty important if it has changed, and for the worse it seems.

Deathloop was boring as hell and was basically the biggest signifier that Redfall was gonna be rear end, well that and the fact that they only ever made one actually great game and that was Prey.
