Kinda gross talking like this. It's akin to talking about how much genocide Russia will comit if they conquer Ukraine. Obviously the evidence of this is made up and Bucha never happened.

I disagree. The gross part is not talking like this. It is factually stated without embellishment as far as I can see.

The gross part is that it's been done, and that there seems to be no reason to expect it to not be done again.

Russia is sending a flood of poor people to die in misery and cause as much misery as possible to innocent bystanders as they can along the way, to rape, pillage, and murder, and claim none of it happens already while it happens.

They can't even bother to send clothes and food along, and when the puddles freeze up they die of thirst. It's beyond hosed up.

This is all very unnecessary. It was never necessary, and it could stop at any point. Putin could stop it at any point, but he does not, because that would expose Putin to increased personal risk. The was was started by Putin to reduce personal risk to his own person, in the authoritarian factional sycophantic loyalistic competitive lying death system that is Russia, and it is being perpetuated for the same reason.

Without the lie of an external threat, and the opportunity it presents to feed internal threats into a meat grinder, Putin would be lost. This is totally worth hundreds of thousands of lives, and untold misery in terms of famine and conditions incompatible with life for millions more, to Putin, so therefore, this hell goes on. And that is the gross part.

"Scientifically proven, rich and creamy."

The account TatarigamiUA posted a series of tweets (condensed here into a single page) that cast serious doubt on western analysts' proclamations that the Ukrainian assault has failed.

In a nutshell, many analysts focus on the tank ditches and dragons teeth visible from above. Based on that they declare that the assault has failed because it stalled before it even reached "the first" defensive line.

The issue is that based on shelling patterns, the tank ditches aren't really important. The fighting is from treeline to treeline, windbreak to windbreak, much like the battle of the hedgerows of Normandy in WWII.

My take throughout this war is that western powers have done all the analysis and theory behind how they would undertake a war like this, but ultimately it's just not how it actually works in this case. Ukraine has had to improvise as they go along and are drat good at it. The US, et al, just can't think like that because they're not in it.

I'm not sure helicopters are the best for this? What are they going to do, strafe the drone with autocannons from point blank?

Nevertheless, still better than shooting down drones with S-300s, which is something we've seen on multiple occasions, I think.

Attack helicopters are pretty good for hunting slow, cheap drones. They have nice swiveling, stabilized gun turret, can fly slowly and usually have IR sensors.

Israel uses their Apaches to patrol for Hezbollah drones and other slow-movers. Few years ago Apache smoked unresponsive Cessna 172 with Hellfire, and I seem to remember IR footage of Apache shooting down a drone with cannon in a different incident.

I think the point is that Russia is strafing drones over built up areas rather than in open desert areas with minimal buildings

There's also a video of them doing it over houses. I guess that is what I was thinking the original post was referring to rather than the over the water one.

Choppers would be one of the better ways of shooting down slower drones. Planes would move too fast for a decent gun run.

Not actually too surprising, fast movers have serious trouble hitting small, slow flying things with guns. And most gunships aren't really made for the job either if they also have to keep their distance in case there's payload on the drone. Iirc Israel has used some in the role, but everyone is kind of winging it with those drones.

Ukraine will absolutely find a way to start yeeting drones in to helicopters that are sent out on interception missions.

I doubt that the Hind and Havoc gunships have proximity fused ammunition, so shooting down a moving drone from a moving helicopter won't be easy, and let's not pretend they have avionics and fire control systems like even the 90's Apaches have.

Flying a drone into a helicopter's rotor would basically guarantee a crash, right? On paper at least losing a drone seems like an excellent trade if it means deleting a KA-52 from existence, unless the drone in question has some very rare and valuable equipment loaded.
