Bitch, this cars been revved to poo poo for 15 years and loses to some but will continue to run, make noise and be fun for another 20 years if I do basic maintenance.

It's very much leaning wayyyyyy in on the fact that cars are sold via lifestyles people wish they had but is ultimately saying "you will never be that so we didn't produce it to do any of those things well anyway, you're welcome" so in that respect I dig it.

I don't understand how the car can be missing portions of the emissions equipment and also be running as clean as possible. And I don't think the expensive to maintain justifies that. If someone had an old luxury car they couldn't afford to maintain I'd be recommending they get rid of it for a car they could afford to maintain. With caveats of course, if this is a occasional use vehicle like racing or towing or something, sure. It's certainly not a classic. It may be fun for you and that can be something you can argue is worth it.

Given that US automotive manufacturers currently focused on ridiculous trucks and SUVs to skirt emissions requirements, I sincerely doubt my one car is somehow a make or break scenario because of poorly designed components for the emissions control system. And yes, its used for towing and a lot of utility work as well. And no I won't be getting rid of it since I'll be driving it into the ground, especially given how used car prices are right now and the fact that I am in no way going to even consider new car prices. Oh no, I know it does (the soot is obvious on the exhaust pipe) but frankly the engine has been tuned to burn as clean as it reasonably can, with the added benefit of increasing the fuel milage a bit (originally 21 City/26 Highway, now 24 city/30 Highway)

I was hoping you could elaborate a little on this. I was under the impression the DPF and DEF were both systems designed to reduse the pollution a car is generating. How are your emissions less without these systems than with them? Edit: sorry just read you subsequent responses. You're saying you've tuned your car so that without DPF and DEF you're cleaner than the stock tune with DPF and DEF? casque fucked around with this message at 18:22 on Sep 1, 2023 |
