I'm glad it's looking like it's getting some great reception so far in regards to the actual show they produced, though.

honestly, just this one little eight-episode thing as a "yeah, we proved we can do this and do it well" with one of the most live-action-hostile settings and concepts for a series in any anime/manga ever is fine enough. stopping now would make the most sense, because soon after this point they meet Tony Tony Chopper and he would have to be either a muppet or a CGI monstrosity and from then on it only gets more absurd

For those of us who would really like to see someone try that in live action, the fact that Amazon holds the rights is extremely disappointing. They won't do it and now nobody else can try for quite some time.

but for real they cannot go past Reverse Mountain, basically the moment they hit The Grand Line they're encountering literal 70-foot-tall Giants and an island shaped like a cactus whose thorns are the cross-shaped gravestones of the dead pirates killed by the bounty hunters there, followed by a half-man half-hippo transforming monstrosity conquering a kingdom of snowy mountaintops full of fistfighting gorilla-rabbits

and that's after they meet the mountain-sized whale who is trying to smash apart a continent with his forehead

the prologue before Reverse Mountain is really about as far as they can go before it dives headfirst into bananas territory

I've read a lot of the manga so I am aware, and I know Amazon won't do it. Still wanna see it done someday, even if they scale the more ridiculous stuff down like the games seem to have.

E: I'll gladly send you a :10bux:x10 gift cert if they even make it to Reverse Mountain in this series, there's no way they cover 100 chapters before Netflix loses interest or the actors age out (because Netflix made the show too slow)

I mean, I think they could plausibly do the Alabasta arc but cut a SHITLOAD of stuff(basically a good chunk of what I mentioned) but I do not see this series doing well enough no matter what in bringing in new subscribers to warrant more seasons. it's getting a ton of good press but it was also apparently insanely expensive for only eight episodes.

yeah every time I take a friday or a monday off of working at UPS I always feel fully rested when I return to work, as opposed to when I work 5 days and have 2 days off, where I get like 80-90% rested by the next week, which means over the course of a few months I am ground down to dust like so much grain in a millstone

I would absolutely 100% take a 4 day work week at the same pay in a heartbeat. no question.

My work piloted 4x10s on my shift and even with it still being 40 hours I love it. It's only an extra two hours a day for a whole extra day off and I love that trade. We get to work from home two of those days too, so i don't even have to worry about a commute most of the time. Now if we would just stop having people popping out babies constantly so we could be fully staffed, it would basically be a perfect job.

4 10s is good but can wear on at times. I’ve done “980s” a few times and those are nice. Work an extra hour for a few days and every other Friday is off.

I had a schedule like that years ago and even though it was at a terrible place it was still pretty drat cool. And my shift started later in the day so I never had to wake up to an alarm clock. It's probably the last time in my life I had a decent sleep pattern.

Also, I don't know if you were aware, but ads for other shows on the platform are still ads. If you're making me watch something I don't want to watch so I can watch something else, even if the interruption is minimal and/or easily skipped or bypassed, I will not be paying you for the privilege. I hate ads and I hate wasting time doing things I don't want to do, so the math is quite simple.

I don't mind a trailer before the movie as long as it's skippable and based on things I've liked before. The Hulu model of interrupting a show 3 times an episode to show 4 of the 15 ads they have can gently caress right off. I just wanna rewatch Fargo in peace.

That's fine, everybody has their line. I'll even watch trailers at movie theaters or ads on streaming if I'm with other people, and I don't talk about it because the response to my position is way more variable offline. I do watch ads at the local independent theater, because they're not a multi-billion dollar corporation serving me ads on top of overcharging me for a service, their tickets are always reasonable and their pre-roll is their upcoming slate (very relevant to my interests yes please) interspersed with charming local ads, all run off a 10 year old donated 720p projector. That's cute, that's fine, hell I found the dude that painted this house off their ads.

E: SA is an exception to my adblocker, too, because they're non-intrusive and generally at least amusing.

I''ve been binging Monk on Amazon prime and the only ads I've seen are for a documentary about Hawaiian surf girls that Amazon also made at the start of episodes that I can skip right away. Amazon is also trying to be a platform for other streaming services, some of which are free on their own websites/apps and those ones have ads, is that what you're thinking of? This has been on both the website and the Roku app built into the tv.

Netflix talked about introducing a cheaper tier that had ads, but I don't think they've bit the bullet on that yet, or at least, it's not enough cheaper that my parents switched to it

I've been watching Foundation on Apple tv + or whatever it's called. First you have to skip the trailer for some other show, then the ad for the foundation podcast, then the recap, then the intro. You are now 2:30 into the episode and skipped four times just to get to the actual episode.

The only Apple tv shows I've seen I've pirated, so I have no idea what it's like there. We were talking about Netflix and Amazon Prime specifically And I don't think skipping the recap or the intro should count against a show. Sometimes you like the opening and sometime you watched part of a show and then dropped off for a few weeks and you can't remember every thing that's important, and if the show has been going on for a while sometimes the recap is something you saw years ago and only have vague memories of and now it's relevant. I watched all of Deadwood when it first aired on HBO and yeah, every episode was introduced with a "previously on Deadwood" and then the loving credits for the show, and I loved it. When I binged it later on a rewatch I skip it (sometimes I'll rewatch the opening) it's just a gesture to an older time.
