The pitch clock has been great and no one wants to see a 9-inning playoff game that lasts 4.5 hours

The Phillies are loving awful and I hate them. Every other game requires them coming back from 2-4 runs down and now their lovely bullpen can't hold a lead

Only good thing he did in Chicago was being trade bait for Jim Hendry to somehow land Aramis Ramirez from Pittsburgh. Edit: Seriously. In 2003, the Cubs sent Mark Bellhorn to Colorado to re-acquire Hernandez, and then they turned around and flipped him, Bobby Hill and Matt Bruback (who never sniffed the majors) for Aramis, Kenny Lofton and cash. Pittsburgh gave up cash for Jose Hernandez. Timby fucked around with this message at 07:47 on Sep 2, 2023 |

Hi, I'm Dave Littlebrain. You might remember me from such films as "Danny Moskos over Matt Wieters and Madison Bumgarner", "Losing five prospects in the first six picks of the Rule 5 draft", "Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton for a bag of balls the dog's been chewing on for the past year," and "Assuming the entire bloated contract of Matt Morris' bloated corpse and also giving away Rajai Davis for the privilege"

The only rule change I would consider regarding extra innings right now is that after nine innings the Rangers should be awarded one run each inning so that there’s a nonzero chance of their bullpen hanging on.

Eric the Mauve posted:It might just be my brain but based on the games I've been watching all year it feels like pitch clock enforcement has gotten slowly laxxer over time. Like the umps will often let pitchers get away with a slooooow windup that they start with the clock at 0.5 seconds but don’t actually deliver the ball until 2 seconds past. I kinda think the decreased game times are more down to the two disengagement limit and not letting hitters dick around for 30 seconds after every foul ball than the clock itself.

The topic of the slow uptick in game times came up on Effectively Wild, where they landed on probable cause is that pitchers have gradually gotten more comfortable with the clock over the course of the season. So they're now more likely to start throwing at 1 or 2 instead of 5 or 6. 4-5 seconds per pitch over the course of the game pretty much accounts for the average uptick in game time over the season. It does seem to have leveled out, though.
