Butterwagon posted:Any word on this? quote:Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes and even seas that aren’t too choppy. I still think about this claim a lot. Like it was already completely ridiculous bullshit since day one, but now that we see videos where the Cybertruck can't like, go up a four inch edge without ramps and multiple people assisting it? River banks, lake beds, the bottoms of lakes and rivers, all surfaces renowned for being very level and smooth, the Cybertruck will definitely have no trouble with those. I am hoping some Musk fanboy actually goes for it though. That reminds me wasn't there a goon that was so angry about their car because they somehow interpreted it being waterproof and really well sealed or whatever to mean that they could drive through a foot of water with it.

That's true for the drive train. But mecanical bits like suspension, brakes and tires will fail and require maintenance just like any other car. Even more so for the tires due to the added weight. And obviously, the other bits of the car are no different than a regular car except in this case they are built like Chryslers so trims, doors, hinges and poo poo are all shoddy.

bird with big dick posted:no brake pads or disks for an extremely long time, etc. If you look at large car repair surveys, that can actually be an issue. Since electric engines recuperate energy, brakes are used less often and with lower intensity. This can lead to corrosion because there is not enough friction. To prevent this, EV owners should make proper use of their brakes regularly.

Yeah, this is the bit that is often overlooked. My first year of ownership of a Tesla didn't cost me much for repairs, most of it was under warranty. But that year it still cost me a full week and a half of pto spread over the year to do back and forths to the service center to get poo poo sorted out.

That is quite a lot of cars catching fire and killing their owner. I suppose I’m always just a little cautious of goon exaggeration because this forum is the only time I ever hear about this stuff (and many other bad, one could say awful, things) and I’m a little paranoid of one day pulling these facts out with real people and looking like a crazy person because it’s not actually even that common. 62 though, boy howdy. That’s a lot of cars going boom. Anyway had a x.com the everything app died permanently yet or what I was promised a total site shutdown within weeks and I’m getting impatient

Tbh whatever teslas safety record, likelihood of catching fire or whatever - the fact that they are beta testing a clearly subpar self driving system on public roads is an extreme problem. There is a list of problems with that poo poo system a mile long, it's clearly unsafe, and you can't tell (if you're in the states) whether a Tesla is using it or not. So, yeah, I'm perfectly happy treating them as a hazard.

Not OP, but for me it's the same protocol as when I see a Mercedes SUV or lifted pavement princess: keep extra following distance, avoid their blind spots, and assume that they will do something oblivious or aggressive with little to no warning (and also run/roll most stop signs, obviously). This has saved me from two potential Tesla collisions in 2023: one when a dude shoved his car across four lanes of traffic at 70mph and another (much less risky) one where I correctly assumed that the old guy in the Model 3 would not, in fact, yield to me in the roundabout. I also use this strat for any American sports car or luxury German vehicle, it's something I picked up bike commuting in Philly and it's served me really well behind the wheel. Yeah I see Teslas all the time and generally think nothing of it, but the past 2-3 years the real memorably wild poo poo I've had to deal with commuting to work and driving around the city is coming from Teslas and BMWs, with Tesla stealing the crown from the long-time champion.
