The one question I've got after watching a few of these videos is, are there really that many stoners with RVs? I've known a bunch of stoners, and apart from those kids who had a broken-down 16-wheeler behind their communal house, they generally had trouble even swinging a car.

Based on the people I see in RVs in my city, RVs are more of a methhead thing these days. Millennials.

There's a lot of tech bros who smoke weed and have RVs. The guy I know who goes to Burning Man the mostest is a muckety-muck at JPL.

One day people will be able to communicate across vast distances to share pictures, sound, and even video. Unfortunately that’s currently impossible. For now let’s puke gasoline, diesel, and garbage into the ecosystem. It’s the only way to save the planet.

I'm a decade out of date but when I first went there were some rvs but not many. Lots of tents and structures made of pipe and canvas. I went with a friend who had a trailer and another couple who had a scamp. None of us were broke stoners but the general idea was that you only needed to get your stuff there and back, so a beater could work. Midweek some Australians camped next to us with a tarp extending from a civic hatchback, they were pretty happy that we fed them dinner a few nights because it meant cooked food. Across from us was a retired truck driver/welder who hauled a full garage of poo poo on his giant flatbed. Later years we had a 1994 Ford econoline (I. E. Creeper van) that we got off Craigslist for 1k. It worked and also let us haul stuff when we needed it. We did look into an rv and you can get really old ones with serious issues (but can drive) for dirt cheap so long as all you want is a roof and a hole to poo poo into. 2013 though I saw a big uptick in RVs and other stuff that kinda ruined the vibe, like generators running all day and night. There were some rv rental places that I think really expanded and the "turnkey camp" where you just pay a fee to a group and show up at a prebuilt camp were everywhere. Not sure if things got worse after that.

Thankfully, it looks like people are still mostly safe and having a good time. Anyone who camps at all knows how to make a decent time out of inclement weather. Youre the one stuck playing in the mud here. Sorry.

A good friend of mine is a charter helicopter pilot. He spent all day today picking up clients out there who were paying $3500 per hour to fly back to San Francisco (about an hour and a half travel time). Very expensive uber.

If it was a typical camping situation it wouldn't have been news, kind of dumb to equate the two. But it's a good thing you're standing up for them I guess? You seem to have taken personal affront that people laugh at rich idiots because you're friends with said rich idiots. PS: These rich idiots are loving up land that is not theirs too, so double gently caress those idiots lol

I wonder if they'll manage to keep it mostly out of the press and we won't hear anything until it's time to start selling tickets for next year. The last time I was this interested in it was a few years ago pre-pandemic, when they were trying to outline how they were going to make access to tickets more equitable and attempt to discourage the whole pre-built camp, packaged vacation aspect. At some point you've got to grapple with the idea that building community around the idea of fleeing to the middle of the desert for a week every year isn't necessarily going to build a healthy community.

Nah mate just think its overly goony and cynical to watch a literal festival from afar and think "i hope they all suffer". its straight up Grendel type mentality.

Nah, it's literally human nature since they're not part of your tribe. Schad is built into our brains - the feeling existing is in no way shameful, but giving into it beyond lighthearted shitpisting is where problems lie Watching from a distance is the same as watching itchy and scratchy. Remembering they're actual humans is where the grace is

Oh what so Grendel was supposed to just allow himself to be harrowed by the sounds of merriment each night? Doesn't Grendel deserve a decent night's sleep? I object to your comparison of Grendel to goons who want to see these partygoers suffering, it's a completely different situation and is unfair to Grendel.

Grendel, a disturbingly savage and horrific beast, being kept awake by 90s rap hits from the nextdoor neighbour, bravely grabs a 5 pack of coors light thats been sitting in his buzzing fridge for a month. He dusts the crumbs off of his best Star Wars t-shirt, leaves the apartment, and knocks faintly on the neighbours door. "So, uhh, are you guys like, having a party?"
