I think the fact that Ten Hag is willing to bring on England Captain Harry Maguire in a competitive game is some indication of how he rates Bailly

this is the same post but with the names changed

Antony has no end product unless the product somehow involves beating he wife, but Sancho's performances are entirely in line with Ten Hag's preferred options on the right being Antony, a cardboard cutout of Antony, re-signing Karel Poborsky, and then england international Jadon Sancho

like people are super excited for Ten Hag to be some big Mourinho weirdo who arbitrarily picks a player to bully and eventually all the team hates him, but at a certain point some players are just bad and fail and can't get games outside Turkey

if Charlie Adam doesn't work in a Jurgen Klopp team then maybe there's a possible explanation beyond the fact that Klopp is a terrible manager

For real reals, he seems to have struggled a lot every time I've seen him to adapt to the PL unless the opposition is willing to give him time and space on the ball. There are also some rumours floating around (of questionable veracity) that he's involved with unpleasant people in London and that him going to Germany got him away from that and focused on football.

His issues pre-date Ten Hag coming in, he was given time off last season to get his head straight and clearly hasn't, and I'm not against losses being cut at this point.

Crazy how Manchester United always ends up buying players who turn to poo poo or fall in with a bad crowd or commit violence against women, or hell, in Antony’s case, all of those things

This news about Sancho being involved with a bad crowd and Ten Hag sending him to train in Holland for a bit last winter to get away from it, reminds me of Ravel Morrison.

To be honest, if you aren't playing in England or Saudi Arabia, does it even count as proper football?

Anthony is a pos. But he is better than Sancho right now. One thing he does is he actually tracks back. Both produce nothing but Sancho is just more lazier on his defensive duities. Sancho was very good in Dortmund so don't know what happened to him. He could take on defenders 1v1 that was one of his strengths, he had some flair and tricks. When is the last time he has done a stepover and gone past a player?

Sancho has looked off the pace from the first second he played in the Premier League.

Ya Antony should be punished for that but our discussion was who is better, neither are that good but Antony does seem to put some kind of effort on the pitch.

Looking at some Advanced Stats (expected goals actually scored and expected assists actually made vs expected games played that were actually played) it looks like Antony is really bad. If you go a bit deeper into the hidden stats like cards received, it’s even worse.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/sep/06/european-clubs-saudi-arabia-transfer-fees-football

The Guardian posted:

European clubs are seeking guarantees that they will be paid the huge transfer fees agreed with Saudi Arabian clubs in full after a summer of unprecedented spending that has reshaped the transfer market.

Before this year the amount spent by Saudi clubs on players in Europe’s top divisions had never eclipsed 2% of total yearly sales. After a transfer window that has seen players such as Neymar, Rúben Neves, Fabinho, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Riyad Mahrez move for eye-watering amounts, that proportion has risen dramatically to 11%, totalling €878m (£753m). As recently as 2020 the outlay was only €63m.

...

The Saudis have become serious players but there is an appetite to ensure clubs are safeguarded in case of non-payment. Concerns are understood to have been raised behind closed doors at the European Club Association [ECA] general assembly, which is being held in Berlin from Wednesday to Thursday, with clubs seeking assurances that they have leverage over their Saudi counterparts in case of debts not being honoured.

According to article 83 of Uefa’s financial licensing and sustainability regulations, a club must have “no overdue payables” in order to receive a licence to compete. The rules say payables are considered overdue if they are not paid according to contractual or legal terms, but they count for little in deals conducted beyond Europe.
