My favourite part is how the early attempt at both rhyme and metre both break down as the author begins to senesce into a haze of confused nationalism. A very British poem, 5/7

Which got me thinking, firstly they're not the first family you wouldn't want around your kids to try and pull that one. But also there's a huge overlap between people who have this very particular 19th century Anglo Protestant view of the world and preferring systems based around a big heteropatriarchal extended family rather than systems that are transparent and work. So the queen solved the problem of being Big Mum, who is only one rung below Big Dad, and therefore solves problems just by existing. If we were a secular republic then the flags would stop working.

Edit to plug her books: The Psychopath Club https://amzn.eu/d/dH3Sz5x is a Stephen King-esque story of weirdness, shifting dimensions and a budding serial killer. The Devil's Finger https://amzn.eu/d/0JoOK4d is a novel combining cryptids, a heist and a fantastic lead character best described as a pound-shop Jo Brand. A bit lighter in tone, and very loving funny. She’s also doing a poetry set at Shrewsbury Pride at the end of September. Camrath fucked around with this message at 15:51 on Sep 8, 2023 |

I would be cautious about describing everyone who commits poetry as "a poet" Like yes technically it is correct and gatekeeping is bad but if someone does something professionally I think the descriptor is more apt than someone who writes into the newspaper with... that.

I'm out of the country, what's this I hear about a British Jason Bourne using his operator skills to make a cheese grater of Heathrow border control?
|
# ? Sep 8, 2023 18:51 |

He truly was the British Jason Bourne because rather than doing cool spy poo poo like a car chase, it seems like he mainly exploited budget cuts, staff shortages, corruption and possibly foreign assets to get out. He did at least cling to the bottom of a truck for a bit I guess.
