idk Santos did the hard part of benching him, but Martinez brought him back. He wasn't bad in the first three games but yesterday he was awful. On the other hand, Gonçalo Ramos is injured and we don't have any other decent strikers (Félix also hasn't been great and doesn't play very well alone upfront).

I think they specifically hired Martinez because he's too much of a wet blanket to drop him.

I watched nearly all of Portugal's match yesterday and they look incredibly restricted by having to play with Ronaldo despite having a truly world class midfield behind him.

He has a certain aura where even very accomplished players like Fernandes and Silva feel they have to pass to him all the time, even when there are better options.

So why is Ronald playing for Portugal? Pressure from sponsors and fans or they genuinely don't have a better option?
Probably the same reason why Sweden seem to pull Zlatan out of a hat every other year: a lot of people are idiots.

Amusing end to the match but Trafford looks and the Spanish forwards looked hopeless.

How the ref didn't blow the final whistle straight afterwards I don't know

Well that was poor.

I don't know if this is controversial but like Tottenham I think England would be better without Kane. We have players like Maddison, Bellingham etc who can do what Kane thinks he needs to be doing and play in that deep role.
