I like 'em both! lots of different moods around Christmas - there's enough songs to go around. edit: Terrible page snipe. The National released two new songs. They're just as boring as you'd expect by now. Although the second half of Space Invaders is nice and jammy - but you have to slog through the first half to get there.

This one is either indie or pop depending on the year of release. As it is, it's indie. I heard this on WFMU and thought it was a track from decades ago but it's a 2023 release. The whole album is this kind of surf-rock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9aAs0VUlVs And this one is Monocle approved. But I only like some of the album, maybe because I'm not a real aristocrat (although plenty of people think the magazine lies about its subscriber surveys to attract ads for private islands and Patek Phillipes lol): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9aAs0VUlVs

New Hotline TNT single! Album coming November 3rd, and it's produced by the bassist/producer/engineer from Momma and one of the guys from Snooper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMxEbHC_xqY Plus the video has alt comedy dudes Eric Rahill, Jack Bensinger and Caleb Pitts, so this whole thing is a really weird convergence of stuff I like.

I think that might just be the Ben gibbard experience, last night dcfc had the same energy they did the other times I’ve seen them over the past 20 years (gently caress this poo poo man) yeah I was losing my poo poo over postal service, it seemed like it would never happen again in my lifetime so it was really special. helps that the album is front loaded with bangers

I went to Manchester Psych Festival the other week there and saw a bunch of folk. The Mysterines - Locals and the first act of the day, the venue was crammed and they were pretty good for having the opening slot. I loved the Mysterines singles before the album but found the album itself a bit disappointing, good live though. https://youtu.be/sfG5b8pW3pU?si=73XlqFdr5kkhhzBh Sorry - at the Albert Hall in Manchester where the acoustics were awful but they were great. I love Sorry but I think they're suited to smaller venues better? https://youtu.be/bzRrORE8LtU?si=isc0Vok414BF1o3B The Lovely Eggs - A Manchester institution at this point I had never really gotten them before but seeing them live shows me why people love them so much. I'm not sure I've seen someone go harder than them on a first song for a long time. They were great, glad to have seen them. https://youtu.be/2uuMy2ZN7A8?si=VyTsSkMMGG5XKw2Y Pillow Queens - I'd heard a few things by them before but they were the standout act of the weekend to me, loved the set, loved the band. They really tipify this wave of young Irish post punk and rock bands like Fontaines DC, Sprints etc. A softer sound here to some extent but great. Immediately bought their first 2 albums. https://youtu.be/LglMwrXcsW4?si=chAEwhAko0TKQRgG Snail Mail - I was looking forward to Snail Mail. But it was back in the Albert Hall and if its possible to have negative stage presence they had it. They tried to hype the crowd a bit by just shouting Stone Roses a few times to absolutely nothing back from the crowd. Benefits - This was a bit of a revelation here, angry powerful spoken word over a driving beat. Kingsley Hall holds the attention of everyone in the room with ease. Injecting a little humour now and again that relieves some of the pressure from the tracks. If you have a chance to see them live do it. Maybe not one to listen to when chilling at home, one to listen too when you want to smash the state. https://youtu.be/7sc4cWzdiwk?si=GOghRKpmQ3UEEqPR Hamish Hawk - he's a local lad to me and always puts on a banger of a show. Witty and with some really sing alongable songs he's great value live. https://youtu.be/yC_-YhydSyc?si=hnVg4QU49DcTQAnt Ezra Furman - I've never been that into Ezra Furman. I've heard them on the radio a bunch but never gotten round to actually listening to her in depth. But I did always like her show when she was on 6 music. But woah what a show, venue was packed and really up for it loved it. https://youtu.be/E3VHFlVP-GM?si=MvLJy22P0ZaumkBf DEADLETTER - This was at 1 am and I thought it might be winding down a little but in the end we had to queue to get into a tiny room so missed the first 20 mins of the set. But what a set, the whole room was jumping, I think this will be the smallest venue they'll play for a while as the atmosphere was amazing, songs were great what a way to end the day. The best live band I've seen for years. https://youtu.be/yvl-gLZdREo?si=ntegYmjM-vBMbQG4 I wanted to see Nightbus who were on later by my body is too old and frail.

I thought Death Cab was pretty average at best, did not interest me very much and the vocals kind of sucked. Postal Service was so much better and had way better energy. gently caress people at concerts. I got there when doors opened and got a nice spot on the rail of the lawn and had TWO groups push their way into our space. One was a very drunk/hosed up couple that sang into each other's faces and poo poo right in front of me after I had been there for over 3 hours. They were so hosed up that the guy started to try and put his hand down the ladies crack and caught himself. Main character syndrome at its worst.
