Just came across some pictures from Pyrmont, Sydney from 1987.

Pyrmont was full of derelict buildings, slums and state housing at the time, left to rot as the docks stopped being financially viable.

The houses in these pics are from Point Street where they look over Darling Harbour and the Pyrmont Power Station, which was the future site of The Star casino. They were soon demolished as they were deemed condemned, though people still remained living in them up until the area was redeveloped.

Absolutely mental that Pyrmont is now Million Dollar plus apartments now. Northern beaches used to be like that too, was the crappy surfie houses area (though still nice) and now über rich Only areas.

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

A lot of Sydney is like this, to be honest. I did the headland walk south of Cronulla a couple of weeks back and it’s astounding to see untouched 50s red brick bungalows sitting alongside the $10m+ movie set mansions.

Pyrmont doesn’t surprise me at all to be honest. It’s prime harbourfront land with incredible views and really close to the city. I actually lived on Point Street about 10 years back so I know the area pretty well, and there’s still little pockets of those dodgy old terrace houses, though in much better condition than those photos!

Anyone interested in this kind of “old photography” stuff should check out the Police & Justice Museum near circular quay. They have a big exhibition of old crime scene photos (late 19th and early 20th century), and there’s so many great little slices of life like that. A lot of the “metadata” around the photos has been lost, so you can kind of speculate where things are taking place and why.

North shore too. Used to be isolated pockets of suburbs that were the Richies, Gordon, pymble Turramurra etc. The low income Boonies used to be North of Hornsby and that's all million bucks a pop now.

That brought tears to my eyes. When I heard they'd snagged You're The Voice for the Yes vote I was most loving overjoyed. The tune packs great emotional punch. It already lives in people's heads. People tend to vote with their emotions, so I feel just this alone will sway a bunch of undecided cunts.

It's sent a lot of the NOpers into a loving frenzy, though. Some are even threatening him for it.

These baby devils are 5 months old. Once they're older they'll be released into the NSW conservation area managed by Aussie Ark. At the moment, there is too high of a chance for them to catch devil facial tumours and die if they were to be released into Tasmania :(

I was up in the botanic gardens in Olinda a few weeks back, there's a population of wombats there but they all have sarcoptic mange, which can be fatal. Its pretty bad to look at but it can be treated apparently.

Yeah I was talking to the people from the local wildlife rescue today and they were saying that if you see a wombat out during the day it's not good. Apparently it's a sign they've got mange, because it makes their fur fall out and they get cold, so they have to go out into the sun to warm up :(

:google: posted:

Orangutans are very strong animals, around seven times stronger than humans. They can lift about 500 pounds and have a bite force of 600 PSI, almost two times the bite force of a leopard. These primates primarily use their arms and shoulders to move through trees, which explains their upper body strength.

I saw a wombat one night whilst walking along a fire trail down to the RSL. I suppose we startled it. It took a hard right uphill and tore off into the scrub like a dense high-speed unstoppable nugget of muscle. I could hear branches snapping as it loving ploughed through the bush like a cannonball.
