Is there a separate debate thread for this godforsaken shitshow tonight that I'm not going to watch?

Do we have a bingo card?

- socialism
- laptop
- Hunter
- pedophiles
- Weaponized DOJ/FBI
- China too easy/free space
- Election fraud
- Border Wall
- Chicago/NY/SF
- BLM/Antifa
- Pelosi

Only thing I'm remotely interested in is Chris Christie getting booed relentlessly for daring to suggest that Donald Trump is a liar, a con man and a felon who's unfit for office. Not sure what world I'm living in where a ghoul like Christie is the biggest voice of reason on a national stage of GOP presidential candidates, yet here we are. Interested to see which other candidates aren't total pussies who will also call out Donald. They have to take him on since he's leading by a mile and his absence is the elephant in the room but they CAN'T because their base is an insane, brainwashed cult and it's also probably best if they can somehow ignore him while still attacking him. Somehow.

I want one of the questions to be to asked of Desantis or anyone else up there to please give us examples of all the "pornographic" children's books littering our school libraries. Because I've searched and can't find a definitive list (even a top 10) of these horrible works of deviant literature and I'd like to check this objectionable material out for myself.

Anyone with pdfs, scans or even titles of this horrible filth, please post them.

Over/under on Christie dropping out if Trump isn't at the next debate? He was barely able to say anything without his foil and when he did he got booed.

I'd be happy to take your money but Christie held his own and will be at the next debate barring streetball injury

Next debate you need to have at least 3% in a poll (instead of 1%) but somehow that doesn’t seem to winnow the field much. Probably only gets rid of Burgum and Hutchinson.

This is clearly a joke but there really was a gap between "I'm not Trump but I'm still a Republican" and "So what exactly are your policy goals?" where it actually looked like he was something resembling a frontrunner :v:

I saw it coming when I first heard him speak a couple years ago. There's no way someone with such a nasally and whiny voice would ever make it and become president. Not even remotely intimidating, it's honestly stunning how these sorts of goobers keep dominating the GOP.

When party leadership gets a firm majority in a state or major city charisma and likeability stop being major factors for candidates. They stop nominating actual leaders and look for barely sentient rubber stamps instead

I really want to go back in time and show myself Desantis' current status to myself, like, two and a half years ago. It would save me a lot of stress mulling over dozens of "Desantis: Trump, but competent, and definitely our next President" think pieces that were published back when the right wing was briefly pretending that Trump wasn't still their guy.

There were a lot of "Trump but competent" nightmare candidates hyped up by lib/left thinkpieces between 2018 and now. The truth is "Competent Trump" is an oxymoron, his base doesn't want an electable path to fascism, they want a justification for their nightmarish fascist impulses

How many people ever heard Lincoln speak vs seeing photos and hearing about him suplexing dudes because he was giant though?

This even more than 2016 is kinda letting me learn why people loved Trump. He’s just as evil and unrelatable as this crew but drat if he isn’t entertaining. Hopefully the media doesn’t start giving him his beloved screen time bc there is a part of my lizard brain that wants to see him descend from a golden platform at the next debate and start his special style of owning all these goobers.

We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.
Tim Scott’s girlfriend (originally titled "Why do we care whether Republican candidate Tim Scott has a girlfriend?")

quote:

In June, as Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) began to get a little momentum in the presidential primary, a person working on behalf of one of Scott’s Republican opponents messaged me, asking to chat.

“Have you seen the video,” he asked over the phone, conspiratorially, “where he says he has a girlfriend?”

The video in question was from a May event organized by the news website Axios, where the interviewer asked the South Carolina senator about the possibility of becoming the first bachelor president since the 19th century. “I probably have more time, more energy and more latitude to do the job,” he replies. And then the senator adds — quickly, as an aside: “My girlfriend wants to see me when I come home.”

An oppo campaign appears to be trying to spread media attention on the fact that Tim Scott is famously a bachelor, celibate and, until relatively recently, a virgin. This is in the added context of a much more intense and similar rumor mill around fellow SC Senator Lindsey Graham, who "everyone knows" is gay. Scott doesn't have the same sort of reputation and attributes his status to his taking his christianity and morality seriously. The oppo campaign is likely trying to generate a similar scandalous/dishonest aura around Scott.

Here's some relevant parts of a writeup I did on Scott from the 2020 election:

Discendo Vox posted:

Tim Scott is one of the two US Senators from SC. He's African-American, and generally regarded as in a safe seat. He is a member of Seacoast, which is a megachurch in Charleston with satellites around SC and NC. Seacoast's coverage is much broader than it seems, because it pioneered livestreaming events from its churches. It's a massive media and commercial force in SC, in no small part because it's the default church to belong to if you're a wealthy out-of-towner. Seacoast's patronage network is one of Scott's powerbases- it gives him a positive image, and it gives him ties to the massive real estate industry that roils the Charleston area, in which the church is itself a player. Seacoast attendees go to services, then eat at nearby restaurants owned by Seacoast, and drive back to gated communities built by Seacoast, in cars sold at auto dealerships whose land is also rented from Seacoast - all without knowing that this is part of a business plan the church has to maximize profits (this isn't unique to seacoast, I just looked into how they were doing it several years ago- many megachurches do this, it's a refinement of more open church business strategies).

Seacoast is mixed race and softpedals its chuddiness enough to maintain a very very broad consumerbase [i.e. it's not all white]. Scott has never been as married to Trump as other Senators, especially on race issues where it hurts his ability to use the church to launder his conservatism. And he criticized Trump a fair amount over how he's handled the Floyd sequence of events, to the point of being one of the main GOP figures quoted doing so.
