"melting together"? there are clearly distinct cutoff points for all of the architecture in the artwork  some of the stuff is obviously fused with other elements of the artwork but nothing that doesn't look like it was painted by hand

MRAZZLE DAZZLE

I mentioned this last week, but I'm on a major Children of Bodom binge lately. Specifically the first four albums. I still can't get over how good Something Wild is for a debut album from a band of 18 year olds. To me it's like a death metal take on a Yngwie Malmsteen album and it's very unique. The song structures are kind of free flowing, but still cohesive. And there's the neoclassical element that underpins a lot of the guitar solo work. But at the same time, there's a lot of other different metal styles mixed in with the songs. The Nail has to be the highlight of the album for me, especially the sweep picking part at the end (and the Malmsteen quote with the final sweep).

gently caress! I hate that Alexi Laiho died from alcoholism. He still had so much to contribute to metal. I don't think I really appreciated his guitar playing until I relistened to those old albums. That poo poo was crazy coming from an 18 year old!

It's okay if you have any questions.

If you haven’t check out Sinergy, a side project between Laiho and Kimberly Goss of Dimmu Borgir.

Bodom post

I've said it probably multiple times now but Bodom were my primary gateway band, I'll always love the first 3 more than most albums and I think Halo of Blood is one of the strongest comeback albums there is. Alexi was the first celebrity/musician death that really hit me, then Trevor after that.

Anywho, asides from the myriad of clones that they spawned when I am in a Bodom mood I usually end up listening to Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius since there's so much of that same DNA shared between the 3 of them.

CoB laid some groundwork for me appreciating harsh vocals, but Laiho's style still always grated me somewhat so I didn't listen to them that much. Norther's Dreams of Endless War was the first album with harshes I ever bought and fully enjoyed, I guess because Lindroos' rasp is more even and intelligible.

The album still holds up really well tbh.

The last Bodom album (Hexed) is a solid return to form too but Halo Of Blood was definitely their lategame peak.
Bodom After Midnight also released a 3 track EP which was supposed to lead into their full album but obviously now won't, and it wasn't bad either.
Alexi died way too young. Also Sinergy was great and I wish we'd got the 4th album. :(

The guitarwork is obviously very similar, but overall Sinergy is on the lighter side compared to CoB, what with the clean vox instead of Alexi's YOW YOW screeching.

CoB is usually classified as melodeath, but honestly they were kinda their own beast, imo.

A lot of people somewhat derisively call melodeath power metal with harsh vocals but CoB are genuinely that.
