Sure, but it's much more difficult to arrest a satellite and force it to give a videotaped confession/apology to air on state TV.

If you can believe open sources, they have something like 50 full S-400 systems (radars, command post, etc) and hundreds of launchers.

I doubt anyone really knows minus Russian engineers. No one knows really to what extent the parts are in the sanctions list minus, again, Russian engineers. Either way, it's going to be difficult to knock up one from scratch on fast track.

S-400s are good enough that Turkey ordered a system a while back and it pissed off NATO so much that the US withheld the possibility of sending F-35s to Turkey because the S-400 would pick up too much information that would then almost certainly backdoor back to Russia on the F-35's capabilities

The loss of a full system is a big blow to Russia and they've lost two in recent fighting I believe. The launchers are more numerous than the C&C

Depends. The growler launchers would be relatively easy to replace, because they're mostly ammo and truck. The radar pictured is probably Cheeseboard radar fire control, which is relatively old and a holdover from the S300 system. They're still pretty good, but Russia would have still have a decent amount* laying around. If they were the Gravestone, Russia's latest and greatest, replacing those would be difficult.

Yes, the predecessor Draken wasn't a quiet one either; I used to live next to an airfield and during an airshow in the early 2000's you could tell the F/A-18 Hornet and Saab J35 Draken apart by a simple rule that when Hornet flew over the building the windows would shake and when Draken flew over the building would shake. It is unbelievably noisy thing for a single engine plane from the 50's.

It turns out that Solovyov has his own foundation through which he helps soldiers on the front line. In fact, he does the same thing as Grubnik. The fees are incredible. Hundreds of millions of rubles. But there are no reports at all. And who helps Solovyov in stealing this money? Naturally, our beloved comrade Khodakovsky and his Vostok battalion. In several commercials, it is he who plays along with Solovyov. Solovyov and Comrade Khodakovsky share the money of the unfortunate goyim together? And why am I not surprised?"

And whoever said the air defense systems are out of HIMARS range is right. S-300 and S-400 systems both outrange the HIMARS missiles being supplied to Ukraine. It would be kickin rad if we gave them the 300km variant but welp

Thanks to ISR though, I've come to discover an important fact: For every blithering idiot that pollutes our ranks, our enemy has blithering idiots in equal proportion.

Couple months back, I'm in the TOC standing around trying to get information on some developing crisis while my platoon spins up. Some jerkoff insurgent is out on route obviously burying something in the middle of the night, but they don't feel confident enough to just drop a Hellfire on him, so they want us to roll out there, blow up this crap, and detain the dude. While I'm still waiting around trying to get a good grid for where exactly this is all taking place, the dude finishes emplacing and begins to walk off; it looks as though he will probably get away. Then, inexplicably, he turns around, walks back to where he buried the pressure plate, and begins jumping on it. Just like you'd imagine, he blows up.

To this day, neither myself or anyone else who was watching that feed can come up with a reason why he did that. The best we can guess is that he went back to see if his pressure plate was working or something. No matter how stupid any of my guys might be, at least they're not that dumb (I hope).

This! A good rule of thumb for cost effectiveness is not the cost of munitions vs cost of what it shot down but the cost of what not shooting it down will incur.

The thing to understand about Russian is that a lot of the translations are wonky because of the extensive use of mat. Mat is a sublanguage made up of pretty much nothing but cursing. There are at least 37* different meanings for "gently caress your mother" (yob tvoyu mat) that are dependent on tone, context, etc. It could mean anything from "This surprised me" to "That's excellent" to "Literally gently caress your mother" (this will get you beaten). A good mat speaker - something pretty much only native speakers can converse fluently in - looks like that mishmash of florid prose and raw vulgarity.

Fun fact: mat is legally regulated by Roskomnadzor, the government agency responsible for censoring and blocking the internet in Russia

*slightly exaggerating but not by much
