Hardly the most important thing in that article, but do you think Brand actually read Lolita, or did he just read the first chapter or so before getting distracted. Boy this Humbert fellow seems like a good chap, I bet things turn out great for him and his understanding of the world is proven entirely right

The bit that gets me is that not once does anyone seen to have kicked the poo poo out of him. I've been around dickheads who behaved like that in public. They were told knock it off or they'd get the poo poo kicked out of them. The ones that did not knock it off got the poo poo kicked out of them, it ain't hard.

Teresa May did start try and reform Self ID rules when prime minister, which was delayed by Brexit chaos and her failure as prime minister. I have no trouble believing that May thinks trans people are real and it was better to just push through reforms and make it a Tory victory like gay marriage. Doesn't mean she's not an awful piece of poo poo in other ways.

I hope I'm proven wrong but it feels like there's such a hurricane of bullshit and well-funded media outlets that exist as video versions of Spiked that going with the "they're out to get me" angle might even work for him. He's managed to get the richest dumbass in the world on board, and the British public old enough to have eaten BSE burgers aren't immune from the effects just because they think they're old school socialists.

They can either fight it, or get on board and try and claim it as their own idea like with Gay marriage. Its the closest thing to hope.

After the hype, this only being about the obvious rapist and sex pest Russell Brand is a bit of a damp squib. Really glad that at least his victims will get a chance to see him properly punished. Really speaks to the "circle the wagons" approach that everyone in the UK media has. They speak in hushed tones about how they know all sorts of secrets about people like this, but when asked they put on a cheeky "I know something you don't know" act. If any of them had any integrity they'd say gently caress it, name & shame & suffer whatever consequences. Yes, they'd get kicked out of the inner circle of nonces, but would gain the public's adoration. Mourning Due fucked around with this message at 21:48 on Sep 16, 2023 |

It's a cut-throat industry at all levels. If you speak out and make noise against a powerful talent that makes money, you'll simply find yourself without a job and blacklisted. People quickly learn not see things, or ask too many questions. Lots gets talked about behind the scenes and in secret WhatsApp groups, so everyone knows, but very few people will risk their literal livelihoods and futures over things that'll eventually get stomped on by lawyers. What I saw tonight seemed very weaponised and directed, and while I'm glad that a predator like Brand has finally been publicly exposed like this, I had expected more. I guess a few stars will be able to breathe a sigh of relief for now. Anyway, this tweet is quite astute: https://twitter.com/bmay/status/1703129932606386255

I can't fathom the kind of person who sees a "comedian" doing a bit where he pulls down his trousers and actively pisses his pants in public, then goes chasing after members of the public for a cuddle, and thinks "This man needs to be enabled with money and fame."

With Tony Pollard who is an actual archeologist at Glasgow Uni specialising in battlefields where as Oliver mostly chatted to people who knew stuff. Though I think they did go to uni together. It was honestly quite a good show in that it treated battlefield digs with respect but without revelling in misery of human suffering. They did an episode on Culloden Moor, site of the last battle (well, depending in your definition I suppose) on the British mainland. Despite Oliver it's honestly worth a watch on Youtube
