It also updated my timeline, the special forces raid happened after the first S-400 was hit, I was confusing that with the one hit in the same strike on Sevastopol that blew up two ships.

They did transfer some landing craft from the Baltic Fleet (and the Northern Fleet) to the Black Sea Fleet, but that was back around the start of the war. This recent movement doesn't involve more ships being transferred to the Black Sea fleet, though; it's the Russians trying to hide those ships that are already there from Ukraine's sea drones so they don't get blown the gently caress up and sunk.

Odessa definitely isn't happening anymore lol. They lost their lovely flagship and the remaining amphibious things will get wrecked by coastal missiles if they tried anything.

The more I think about it, the more I think Hot Dog Nazi truly believed Putin would honor whatever deal they made because Prigozhin never had any designs on taking over from Putin. He wanted Shoigu and Gerasimov out. He was just so full of brainworms that he never considered how Putin would react to such deep humiliation, and to a lesser extent Putin and Shoigu seem as tight as anyone within Putin's inner circle so getting him out was never going to happen.

Typical as always, western media making an elephant out of a mouse. Andriivka simply isn't real and as such Russia never had any troops there. Ukraine has been fighting itself in the region for months due to superior Russian tactics and strategy.

I think military planners are actually learning quite a bit.

- re-evaluating vulnerabilities of armored platforms to low-cost defensive systems.
- lessons from drone warfare are probably foremost in changed thinking
- artillery is again king (or queen) especially precision munitions
- planners are re-evaluating difficulty of establishing air superiority in peer conflicts
- effective combined arms is way harder to implement than textbooks would suggest
- advantages and disadvantages regarding internal or external supply chain for arms
- And once again even though all wars teach this, there is never enough ammunition

And that's just off the top of my head. This war has definitely changed thinking about how to fight, and with what, and it's going to take years just to digest it.

Most of these the US already knew, or aren't really relevant. Like, there's things to learn for sure, but a lot of those lessons are only relevant for very particular armies. Namely: Militaries with a massive artillery focus with poor everything else. Which is Ukraine and Russia.

yeah, i feel like putin probably loses them either way at this point. its just which loss does he want to swallow more, Discount d-day where tons of mobnicks and vehicles get hosed OR wait for the ukrainians to pick them off at the dry docks with drones.

it sounds like they just got hit with arty and drones until everything stopped moving and then the troops went in a mopped up with more drones.

I'm fairy certain by 'chief of intelligence' they mean 'the battalion's main intelligence officer' not the FSB chief or anything. This would probably be the dude involved with recon and planning and stuff, not a spy.
