Its obviously posturing, even if the ships survive the crossing they would be dead as gently caress when they get into range of the shore, but Russia has a very finite amount of these landing ships left. Another storm shadow strike and Russia will factually lose the ability for an amphibious assault against Ukraine. Moved them from the Black sea to the Azov sea, making it even harder to land on Odessa. They just moved them to save them from being sunk.

They did transfer some landing craft from the Baltic Fleet (and the Northern Fleet) to the Black Sea Fleet, but that was back around the start of the war. This recent movement doesn't involve more ships being transferred to the Black Sea fleet, though; it's the Russians trying to hide those ships that are already there from Ukraine's sea drones so they don't get blown the gently caress up and sunk.
