this is actually a good thing, as it makes room for younger artists to also lose their hearing, balance, lungs, lives, etc.

I believe we are at the point where Tom Hanks dying of a stroke during the oscars would not fundamentally change the covid response in America. You'd see headlines about his health problems (no mention of covid) and there would be celebrities raising awareness of w/e health problems he has (due to Covid, but they won't mention Covid), and then the news will quietly forget about him.

that's actually terrifying and one of the reasons that I'm still super careful. i'm barely even a hobbyist musician, I cannot conceive of losing senses because I catch a virus.

hell losing my taste and smell partially during my first go-round was insanely stressful

We make a special trip just for you, same low price.

My area has plenty of pharmacies with open appointments for the booster, and I've had one scheduled for a few days. But after reading about insurance problems here, I reached out to my insurer (Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic), and they confirmed that they no longer cover COVID vaccines at outside pharmacies, but also don't yet have the latest booster at their own facilities. I can call them to see if they have their poo poo together next week. Cool cool cool.

What is fun about Vegas? I’ve been once and it was lame as gently caress.

Everything is fake and on a huge level, overproduced. I went to one of the best dance clubs, a show, did some gambling, ate/drank big deal. No need to even go back there again.

Thanks so much! I called that walgreens and they have it, but are not accepting walk-ins. I then searched and made an appointment for another walgreens today, then called them up and they said they actually have it. So I'm off to get boosted in 45 minutes!

it's a place where middle-aged americans can go wild out with limited repercussions, which has it's place, but I sure as gently caress wouldn't risk covid for it

vegas style fun isn't my thing personally but i don't mind if other people like that. my primary issue with vegas i think is sustainability issues. in that sense yeah it shouldn't exist, just pick it up and move it to somewhere with water or whatever

Vegas is probably the most sustainable of all the major southwest desert cities in terms of water specifically (no comment on drawing millions of people across the country on short domestic air travel to spend money in casinos) and it'll still be there doing Vegas things long after Phoenix is ash

Vegas is probably fun if you work on one of the shows there.

So thread unicorns are going down to school, unnecessary travel, and not knowing that aerosols hover at face height on the ice rink. My son is 2 weeks into school and still good (masking) buuuuut he's been invited to his friend's bar mitzvah and if anything is going to get us, it'll be that. But bar mitzvahs are cool and I want him to go experience some cool poo poo on his own. He'll mask, but there's food and a party... I suppose I'll jab him asap and pray for another no-transmission infection should he get hit.

Trip report: I looked at my calendar for next month and saw an upcoming dentist visit, which gave me motivation to hit my HMO's vax center. When I arrived, all of the covid signage had been covered up with white rectangles, it's a flu clinic for now :ughh:. The people running it has no idea when the booster would arrive, and no idea how to ascertain when it actually hits, other than just showing up at the door, because there is no direct line and the call center people are just making poo poo up. :sigh:

i lost a significant part of my hearing during the acute phase. it was probably due to intracranial swelling, because my hearing did gradually return to normal over the following days, but it was loving TERRIFYING. everything crackled and sounded like i was hearing it coming from the opposite end of a long corridor.

I decided to scattershot appointments across Albertsons/CVS/and Walgreens early last week for this last weekend and today and both Albertsons and CVS cancelled out due to not having actually gotten their doses but my Walgreens appointment for this morning went off without a hitch and me and a bunch of 80+ year olds got the updated moderna booster. I've got United Healthcare through my employer and I paid $0 out of pocket for those keeping track of which insurance providers are covering costs and where. This was in the Phoenix/Tempe/Mesa area so I doubt a lot of younger people are seeking it out but the Olds were out in force this morning for sure getting boosted.

No, just might have to wait until October when Medicare/Medicaid spin up. Or try and get on Obamacare if its a new situation.
